Mickey installed 2 New HVAC units in 2 of my homes on the same day. He and his crew were prompt and I was pleased with their work. Mickey is a friend of a friend so I was confident when I hired him that he was a good person and company to spend 12k of my hard earned dollars with.
About 8 weeks after the install in my remodeled property my contractor noted that the ac drain pipe was draining into a line that had been disconnected in the remodel. No harm done since it was March and the unit hadn't been turned on yet. I called Mickey and left him a message asking him if he could come change the PVC to a working drain. He did not return my call. I texted him about the problem and he did not reply. I made another call and a couple more texts every 2-3 weeks. I knew he was probably busy so I didn't worry about it.
Since the unit was within his 1 year labor warranty I didn't think I should ask anyone else to do the change for fear of invalidating his warranty. I ended up having to turn the unit on, now July and I had been contacting him since March. Naturally the drain sent the water to my brand new ceiling and all below it was damaged. I can't use the AC either. I sent him pictures and asked if his insurance covered the damage.
He finally replied! He said my contractor was responsible since he didn't remove the pipe that has been an previous drainage line before the remodel. I was blown away by his response. Why didn't he say that back in March, April, May or June? He could have charged me to come out and make the change if he thought it shouldn't be included in the original install price paid. Ultimately it comes down to disrespect by not advising me how to move forward. I think this is terrible customer service from the owner of his own business. He was attentive and friendly when I was hiring him to do a 12K job and I had 2 more units needed next year so he knew I was going to be back for another big expenditure.
We parted on friendly terms after the sale and install. I had every intention of hiring him back.
I'm mystified by this situation, treatment and customer service. This would have been a 30 minute repair that cost less than 20. In PVC pipe and I'd have paid him to do it if he said the change wasn't part of his labor warranty. I was never mad or demanding because I liked him a lot and didn't think he was ignoring me on purpose. He won't make this right though now he can suddenly text me that it's my contractors fault and not his. So sadly, this is why I gave him this review. I've never written a bad review of anyone online before but this has been so stressful I don't want anyone else to hire him without knowing he might not give good customer service. If you hire him be sure to understand what his one year labor warranty actually covers... might not cover much. Now I need to find a new AC guy :(
