  In celebrating 5 years as residents of San Luis Obispo County we feel obliged to share this review about our experiences with local merchants and service providers.

  Since beginning our transition from the east coast we have of course sought support from countless businesses in/around the area. However, this review focuses primarily on [new] construction and home improvement companies and their associated suppliers.

  We can say with confidence that the number of our experiences compare and likely surpass the average new resident to SLO—particularly the new construction homebuyer. Moreover, we have virtually encountered the full spectrum of service, i.e., excellent to utterly pathetic, in terms of customer service (including administrative support and overall customer relationship management), product quality, on time delivery, etc. And, although several meet our “average” and a few “above-average” standards, still, regrettably, far too many below.

  That said, without hesitation we can also say that Morro Bay Cabinets located in Paseo Robles, California, a family-owned and operated business, is far and away superior to any other product and service provider we have encountered in SLO County, in any category—"head and shoulders” above the competition!

  From the moment I walked into the MB Cabinets showroom until the very last cabinet was installed in our home, this was the most gratifying of any experience during the past 5 years of our transition and relocation.

  I was met by the owner, Steve Gordon, who graciously welcomed me to the establishment, initially spending a couple hours explaining cabinetry generally but more importantly MB’s special attention to quality and construction (including a tour of the adjoining manufacturing facility). We then spent considerable time the next day selecting just the right cabinets, including raw materials, style, color, etc., and over the next several days computer-aided design (CAD) modeling so that we could see precisely how the cabinets would fit and look in our kitchen.

  Over the next several weeks while cabinets were being constructed Steve constantly shared status updates and solicited our concerns and feedback (including being extremely generous in accepting and replying to "no-kidding" voluminous email and text messages from me). Then, inviting us to the workshop to approve the cabinets prior to applying the finish.

  Finally, installation was smooth, with cabinets fitting flawlessly. Not to mention an outstanding onsite installation team, supported at all times by Steve and a host of family and other staff located at the company some 45 miles away.

  NOTE: Kudos to “Al” (who reportedly has been with the company since inception) for an outstanding job measuring our kitchen for the new cabinetry.

  So, we actually have an ulterior motive in presenting this 5-year review: To be sure, MB Cabinets has set the standard for construction and home improvement contractors, as well as other merchants in SLO County and elsewhere for that matter—and the bar is set extremely high.

  However, to be clear, we hope to elicit some changes in SLO County—from the local “mom and pop” diner and/or hardware store to the finest restaurants along the Pacific Coast Highway to the purported most prestigious new home builder.

  MB Cabinets did not do anything difficult or complicated, nor impracticable/impossible, or anything of the kind. All that the company has done is to build and maintain a reputable business providing quality customer service, i.e., honesty and integrity, product and service value, fair and reasonable pricing, on time delivery and installation, and exceptional management and administration.

  The type of business that any consumer would be eager to patronize and proud to recommend to family and friends.

  Honesty and integrity, fairness, and reasonableness...easy, simple, practicable, and possible for any merchant in SLO and elsewhere, regardless as to size and product or service to achieve.

  And, best of all, it does not cost anything!

  My kitchen and bathrooms are ready for a picture perfect photo shoot for a magazine. The quality of MBC cabinets is solid and their staff and installers do fine work from design to installation.. When a tile worker did some damage to a cabinet, MBC fixed it at not charge to be perfect again. I highly recommend MBC.

  Recently filed a comment on a problem I had with a cabinet from MB cab,at the time issue was unresolved.I would like to take the time to say the matter was simply one of human error and misunderstanding,they dealt with the problem instantaneously with no fuss whatsoever,I was quite taken back by their concern for customer satisfaction,they even went as far as hiding the Dragoness I had spoken to on the phone,cheryl,They are a Top Class outfit with a great reputation and its not hard to see why,Im saving up for a new kitchen,and im going back to Morro Bay Cabinets and would recommend them quality cabinets and they back it up no matter what their menopausal matriarch says

  Morro Bay Cabinet

  Morro Bay Cabinet in my opinion are not reputable,although they do make fine cabinets.Heres my story as yet unresolved.After visiting their showroom,they failed to show twice with no notification or phone call,the third time they arrived to measure when I the homeowner was not there,the arrival also unscheduled with no phone call.only the contractor was there,they took measurements.When I got home the contractor advised me of the visit.No mention of dimensions were ever discussed with me by either Jeff Mclain the Contractor or MB cabinets.I was awaiting a quote and some drawings,no such undertaking ever happened,no price was quoted,no phone call no e-mail.A couple of days later The contractor Mclain announced that the cabinets would be arriving soon,I asked him what did he mean,he was vague but told me the price $2300.I was surprised as neither My Wife or I had heard anything at all from MB cabinets.I told Mclain the price was high and we needed other quotes.shortly after that he he told me it was too late the cabinet had already been built and was scheduled to ship and that MB cab had emailed us the price.No approval ever came in any form from us,they had simply gone ahead,it seems on the assumptiion that it was ok since they hadnt heard back from us or Mclain had given them the go ahead.It has become apparent since then that Mclain knows several of the employees who work at MB Cabinets.My suspicions say that he is able to contact them after business hours,when I am unable to.The position was tough,Mclain probably ordered them verbally,everytime you ask him he gives you a different answer or excuse.However I felt obliged at that point to go ahead as I knew Mclain didnt have any use for the cabinets nor the money to pay for them.Out of a sense of decency I went in and grudgingly paid for them,When I asked to see them they said they were either assembling them or they were in the paint booth and was unable to enter workshop for insurance reasons.I trusted their word paid in full and left,hoping things would work out.How wrong I was,the cabinets arrived and were installed.after they left I noticed one of the drawers was not functioning properly.after close inspection damage was noticed in 2 places.Jeff Mclain said he had seen one guy lose his balance and the cabinets were banged on the doorpost,he said he saw this and so did his assistant Shawn,they said nothing at the time,my assumption being the installers and him knew each other by the way they spoke. It quickly became apparent that the dimensions were also wrong.the cabinets were too high,too long they did not fit in the bathroom and extended 6in into the bedroom,a hideous sight.they wer also not equally aligned with a proposed window,it was getting worse by the minute.In a phone call to Cheryl the owner only the damage and the height were mentionioned by me,she agreed to send her guys out to fix it,however she still insisted that we ordered it,and she sent an email,this she cannot seem to prove,she sent only a retyped copy of the email and as of now is either unwilling or unable conveniently to prove that she sent an original e-mail,her honesty here is surely in question.whatever the circumstances she has nothing in writing nor any evidence that we placed the order at all.All we sense here is cover up,the only reason I paid for something I had never been quoted ,shown or ordered was the assumption it was already made,and my sense of obligation.Although unresolved at present I feel this issue will end up in litigation,it will be quite easy to prove lies and coverup and downright dishonesty on the part of Jeff Mclain and Morro Bay Cabinets
  Its a bit of a mess and it has caused tremendous bad feelings.Im sure MB Cabinets are generally a fine company with good intentions,Mclain also a decent person,although not the sharpest pencil in the box at times,he obviously bypassed and put MB cabinets in a position they normally wouldnt be in,due to the fact he was able to communicate directly by cell phone with MB Cabinet employees,something I was unable to do.The Story continues and only represents my point of view,it is a series of
  assumptions with little or no consultation or approval on my part,I cannot rule out the ability to lie and cover up by MB cabinets,particularly Cheryl Gorden their owner.my advice when dealing with them is to be careful ,I wasnt and am suffering from that,their position is poor,their installers made a mistake and hoped no one would spot it,dishonestly,and Cheryl Gordon acted unprofessionally and insists she sent an e-mail she cannot prove she sent,therefore MB Cabinets cannot be trusted,
