REM Construction (Rex Most) replaced the windows in my house, replaced a storm door, and fixed a storm door that needed fixing. He fit the job in between bad (wind, rain and snow) weather. He did a completely excellent job. The man was very professional, very pleasant and even though extra actions were needed, kept to his estimate. I have used 4 different contractors for different things, and REM construction was by far the best work. I have more projects coming up and I will definitely be calling REM construction for these jobs! The pricing was very reasonable. There was never any construction mess, I was very pleased to finally find a licensed contractor that works like a licensed contractor!

Rex installed a garage door for me and was great! Very reasonable prices and did it all in a day! Highly recommend.

    kitchen backsplash and deck

We had two contracts with this contractor, one for a kitchen backsplash, the other for a deck. We signed the contracts mid-May. The deck was completed today, 9/30. The final product of the actual deck was very nice but the process to get there was ridiculous, painful and unprofessional. If you do hire him, Rex, the owner, will likely remind you throughout the process about his 30 years of experience.
We had a cement slab that needed to be removed prior to the deck being built. This slab was connected to our house with rebar - and we communicated this to him many times. He promised he would mitigate risk by cutting the cement/rebar before removing the slab. Rex, with his 30 years of experience, failed to follow through on any of the mitigation he promised he would do and slammed the cement slab through my basement wall. We had caution tape surrounding our patio area for two months, completely unusable, while waiting for his insurance and a mason to correct the issue.
Once we told Rex the wall was fixed, he said he would be at our house on “Tuesday” to begin working on the deck again. That was around August 23rd. It was close to two weeks before he showed up. The first couple of nights he worked really late hours, so we thought things were going to turn around. That was not the case. He regularly said he would be at our house to work and was a no-call no-show. One day he showed up, plugged his tools into my electric to charge them and spent 90 minutes straightening his trailer alongside my yard. I know that's how long he straightened his trailer because he told me that's what he had been doing and for how long. After showing up unprepared, obviously not planning to work since his tools weren’t charged, using my electric and my yard, once his tools were charged, he only stayed and worked for about an hour. He is very unprofessional.
After months of horrible customer service, once he finally felt the deck was done, he sent us a hostile text within minutes of thinking he was done, demanding payment. When we said we wanted to look at the deck first, he sent additional hostile texts demanding immediate payment. That was Friday afternoon at 2:30pm. We finally told him no, we would not pay on Friday, we would review the deck first. We made arrangements to review our concerns with him on Monday (today). During a phone call to make the arrangements, he made snarky comments about having to deal with our sticky notes all over the deck and just wanting to get this over with, as if us asking for a day or two to review the final product was unreasonable and unnecessary.
The sticky note comment was in regards to the horrible job that was done on the backsplash contract. From start to finish, the kitchen backsplash took over a month to complete. This is not a large kitchen. Rex insisted that we had to use the grout of his choice. He instructed us to go to Menard’s and pick up the Tec color sample brochure and stated we had to use one of the colors shown there.
Turns out that Rex’s 30 years of experience also doesn’t apply to products he insisted we use. The sub-contractor he hired to do the backsplash was unfamiliar with the product, Rex didn’t instruct him on how to use it, Rex provided no oversight of the workmanship and the subcontractor ended up using it incorrectly. We had them back in many times to clean the mess that was left behind. After the 3rd time coming back in, Rex suggested we put sticky notes on the wall where they still needed to clean. We placed them all over, because it was still that bad.
The end result of the backsplash is uneven, crooked and broken tiles. But we paid for it because at that point we did not them back in our house again.
We all agreed, when he left my house with check in hand today, that he would never be welcomed back on my property again. No need for the 10 year workmanship – I would not work with him again.

    Rex Most

REM Construction installed a new storm door to our modular home. His assistant was courteous, cleaned as he went and thorough. We now have a beautiful new front storm door. I would definitely call REM for further projects down the road.
