We bought a new home built by Troy Hall. We could see that some things were not very good, like the wood fence quality and missing gate.
In those 4 months nothing was done about finishing a number of problems. I don't remember when we did a punch list, however, nothing was done at all before we moved in. After moving in we added several other items that needed attention to the list via e mails with Troy.
Troy promised to do the repairs and made several dates with us that were not kept, and gave a number of excuses, like 'very busy', a 'bad day', someone didn't show up etc.
He finally sent a subcontractor to make repairs 2 months following closing.
By then I had removed a baseboard so cabinet doors cleared the refrigerator, and shimmed out the microwave, cabinet door rubbing it.
During heavy rains the 3" gutters were overflowing off the metal roof. We decided it would be too much trouble to involve Troy and had them replaced.
It took us 4 months to close so I volunteered to buy the gate installation as a gratis for taking an extra month to close, also.
The commodes were getting stopped up regularly, we looked it up, the least expensive Aqua Source commodes from Lowe's. Partial flushing problem well documented by other consumers in the product reviews. We have to remind our guests and ourselves to 'hold the handle down until a #2 flush is complete!
One repair made was a warped fence post. Instead of replacing it, the sub used 6" long screws at odd angles to press the post against the house, damaging the house, as well as being unsightly.
The fence is poorly constructed, is not against some posts, missing nails, one board has a single nail in it, and the boards are knotty, thin, warping.
A big, old tree in the front yard we had estimated for removal at $2800, this could have been done for $300 before building these two houses. The neighbors also complained about Troy's seeming lack of concern.
The grass in half the front yard refuses to grow, when planting a tree we discovered the ground had only sod over mostly debris from demolition of the old house.
The cupboard is nearly impossible to access against the wall over the bar.
Birds were nesting in the three bath and dryer vents as the flappers of the $2 tin are deformed and will not close. The sub removed the nests only.
The dishwasher menu and progress cannot be seen as it is hidden by the countertop.
A composite trim board surrounds the front porch, and it's edge is disintegrating from foot traffic.
I would definitely not recommend anyone do business with Troy.
He is new to home building and he seems not to care about your house before, or after the sale. We dread having to ask him to do any more fixes. We are afraid that everything in the house is the 'cheapest available'. Cabinets, appliances, HVAC, regardless of quality.
