We hired Mr. Gomez to remove our lawn, retrofit the sprinkler system and plant a no-lawn front garden. He came recommended by a neighbor who hired him to install a brand new back yard. He helped create a design based on a couple of plants I liked and he selected the bulk of the plantings. He had fresh ideas that also included adding a low rock wall for a somewhat terraced look. His design was a good plan on paper and the lawn removal and sprinkler system retrofit went well. The rock wall installer did a beautiful job. The soil preparation, or lack thereof, and his decision to cover up the mistakes with colored black bark-type material are at the root of the mistakes and problems that he made. I did not want colored bark but he was rather insistent that it was the best choice. The bark-type material he delivered is low-quality stuff. Plastic paper, hard plastic parts, screws, nails, wire, particleboard, gloves, pneumatic nailing gun cartridges, and insulation, etc., have all been pulled out of the colored bark-type material. I want to believe the delivered material was a mistake, and I didn't realize the problem until after a couple of days of completion when I was able to start really looking at and enjoying, or trying to enjoy, the new landscape. I noticed these odd materials and thought it must have been just careless installation and then I started to find more peculiar items in the colored black wood-type product. I contacted Mr. Gomez right away because already there were a couple of problems: a dying plant and a poly tubing rupture. Concerning the random construction site items, he smiled and basically said "sorry, you'll get used to it." He said he could replace it but that it would come at a cost or I could wait 3-5 years when he suggested it would be time to replace and add with new "bark." I told him I wouldn't get used to it and would be replacing it. I had hoped he would take responsibility and work with me to fix the error. He has not taken responsibility for this inferior product that he chose to use here.
For the last 8 through 15 months, I have been replacing more dead plants and finally all of the colored mulch/bark will be gone. In the process, am realizing how poorly the preparation was for the original plantings and what a terrible job Mr. Gomez did overall. Have repaired more ruptured poly-tubing along with adding an abundance of planting soils and food.
I have given Mr. Gomez ample opportunity to return my calls, messages, emails, and yet he still has not responded, and for this reason, I feel compelled to write a review to let others know and learn from my mistake. I would have preferred to write a favorable review. Mr. Gomez seems like a nice person but his work ethic does not match his demeanor.
