Avoid at All Costs!
For years I served as a reference for Shane Nazarian Painting and Contracting. He is not what he used to be. I will never recommend him again for any project, big or small, under any circumstances. For 7 months he lied to me about submitting for a permit. When confronted with the facts from the town building department, he lied some more, tried to blame me, then went off on a rant against me and his other clients (to me, in writing) and then threatened me that any negative review would be “an attack” on his children.
The work he did without a permit is not safe. It failed inspection because he did not read the architect’s plans and the engineer’s guidelines. This will cost tens of thousands to set right while displacing my family in the middle of the school year.
Here’s the bottom line:
Shane Nazarian did NOT read the architect’s plans or the engineer’s requirements. He ordered the wrong material and did incorrect work that is now endangering our new home.
Did NOT do work correctly – it failed inspection because of his negligence.
DID NOT FILE FOR PERMITS!
Skim coating is cracking and in need of repair in 5 rooms!
New paint is cracking and peeling in multiple places after just a few months due to improper prep. The only saving grace here is that we’ll have to rip open so many walls and ceilings to incorrect his work that we’ll have to repaint most of these issues anyway.
Did NOT finish the job!
Again, for years I served as a reference for him because, years ago, he did good work for me on smaller projects. He’s not that man any more. I feel like I should call those people I recommended him to and apologize.
Here's a little more detail so he can't dismiss this with you like he tried to with me:
He blew multiple deadlines, bad mouthed and blamed every other contractor on the job for his negligence and left the job with thousands of dollars’ worth of work left unfinished. Four months late (and still unfinished), $20,000 over budget, he then tried to blame me for the fact that he didn’t get the permit! The structural work was a blatant disaster. Because Shane failed to read the architect’s plans, he ordered the wrong beams and columns and had them installed, meaning the house is currently not structurally sound. We failed inspection and the inspector recommended we get things corrected as fast as we possibly can. Shane also instructed his team to remove a load-bearing wall without consulting the architect (she was able get the work stopped before more damage could be done).
By not having a permit, despite me asking him about it every few weeks, he would have ended up costing us tens of thousands more on top of the thousands in fines this costs. We were converting a two-family house to a one-family. That has huge tax savings implications which we never would have realized without a permit. Not to mention the fact that if and when we ever sell, we couldn't because the work wasn't properly documented. And considering the work is incorrect, who knows if we would have still had a house to sell?
Shane repeatedly made various promises and would not deliver on them - he missed multiple deadlines that we needed so my son could attend school, kept promising something would get done the next day and then disappear, become unresponsive and so on. Whenever he promised that they were going to "go full steam ahead" I wouldn't see anyone for a week and he wouldn't respond to texts, calls or emails.
Avoid Nazarian Painting and Contracting at all costs. It would be cheaper to just shred your disposable income than to entrust your home to him.
Response from Nazarian Painting and Home Remodeling February 21, 2019William, I’m sorry that you feel we fell short on your project. I was not only responsive but spent hours responding to texts related to work not outlined in my contract with you. You were responsible to find out the requirements for your tax issues and did not inform me of what state these issues were in when we began the process nor would that be my responsibility. You submitted permits under your name as the homeowner not having done your research concerning the conversion. You also threatened me with these reviews if we did not comply with completing your venting that was not included at our own cost. You were a constant presence on the job inserting yourself in any situation you could. I was never unwilling to resolve any issues we had. -

Shane was hired to paint our son's room. By the time he was finished he had painted our son's room, daughter's room, two bathrooms, family room and kitchen. He was so easy to work with, totally professional and met our budget. We wish him the best as he continues to grow his business

In an effort to not misinterpret any information I'm posting my e-mail correspondence between myself and Shane Nazarian of Nazarian painting and home re-modeling.
To preface how we got here, Shane Nazarian re-did my basement, painted and installed new flooring December 2018. Fast forward 6 months and our floor is buckling and it's not because of any water damage. Given the floor was installed by Shane's crew 6 months ago I called Shane, to see if the problem can be resolved:

Hi Shane,
We have tried several times now to get you back to our home to fix the problem with the floor and it seems that we are not a priority, nor do you have the intention to fix the issue given your no shows.
We understand there is no incentive for you to come given the financial loss and priority of other jobs that is generating profits/income. However, when you accept a job you also take on the responsibility to honor your work (especially since we are still within 6 months from when the work was done)
As a consumer we have no recourse then to share our experience on social media platforms. I belong to several mommy groups in Bergen, Essex and Hudson county,, vocal on my town website, part of my HSA, and comment on yelp and google regularly.
Before I leave a negative review..........I wanted to ask you (one last time) if you will come and fix the floor TODAY.
(which in my mind would cost you far less then the damage of a negative review)
Let me know.

Hey Shane,
Any way you can bring the floor guy with you? I'm already seeing gaps and things not lining up . I understand the floors needs 1/4"expand and there's a floating floor issue to consider however what I'm witnessing so far downstairs is concerning.
I think a floor guy could bang this out in a few hours...let's just get it right.
Thanks,
Grisel

I don’t have a floor guy anymore. I also just want to mention that I’m covering this free of charge because of your inclination to leave me bad reviews. This was not fault in our installation it was the weight of those shelves sitting on the floor in a narrow space with nothing to counterbalance on the other side.

100% disagree with "this was not an installation default"
Lets review:
1) When I first showed you the problem you said there was not enough variance at either end for floor to expand. I would say that is a "fault in your Installation".
2) Then you also said a divider at the door (between rooms) was never added and is needed to remedy the buckling happening at the foot of the stairs and heating room....Again, I would say that is a "fault in your Installation".
3) Now it's the weight of the closets in a narrow space.....(maybe) but that's not what bought on this conversation and what is really disappointing about your email.
I emailed you about my concerns with the quality of the CURRENT work, which wasn't even addressed in your email. Instead you respond with how this wasn't " a fault with our installation" in the event I write a negative review you can answer with that. Oh and by the way, you're not doing us any favors by doing under par work because it's free.
I'm calling a floor guy, which is what you should have done in the first place, no need to come here any longer.
*** so that's the story folks. You can make your own judgement (clearly you know mine) but wanted to make the general public aware of the lack of quality & integrity that goes with his work....there so many other contractors to go with why chance it.
