John Collins
Owner
John was recommended by a friend. At first did a great job working with our designer/ architect, until he got busy with other jobs, his trip out of the country, or whatever the excuse. AVOID him. He's sloppy, his team can't make straight lines. He will say he's on the job, and disappear for weeks. He will barely deliver, blame his eyesight on the issues you find because he never read the designs, but in reality he just doesn't care about design quality. Because he refuses to collaborate, and is stubborn about his way, he acts like a 12 year old with a tantrum when he messes up because he says he cares about the end result - which isn't necessarily that great, and displaces blame anytime his integrity is questioned.
When he brings his tradespeople to your project you will need to GC them, because he can't. Still having issues getting the project finished is maybe his angle - as he makes you pay up front, then never delivers. So you give up on the finishes to simply get your plumbing finished or HVAC working. We've been missing fixtures for 5 months at this point. The only reason we assume the work isn't done (work that could be completed by a handyman in a day!) is that he's just too busy, or doesn't care. Or both, or that we offended him trying to correct shoddy work, and now he's just delaying out of spite. Sadly, we have too much invested with his team to go elsewhere, or we would have months ago.
If you get a referral for him, for any renovation, make sure you hire somebody else to do the finishing work or negotiate the terms on delivery. His team is subpar on finishes, and you will fight for anything other than a cookie cutter pre-fab rental-apartment-grade work. If you have a rental, where everything is painted white - and don't want millwork mitered, and don't care about finishing, go for it. If you have a designer avoid - he's incompatible, and will be unable to collaborate to achieve anything beyond cookie cutter without a long annoying game of chicken.
