Brook Christopher
Horrible experience! We hired Mr. Brook and his company, New Vision Construction and Design early in 2015 to do a renovation of our detached garage. Everything started off good. We paid him a $5,000 deposit and signed a contract.
In preparation for the renovation, Mr. Brook used a sub-contracted electrician. The electrician came over and disconnected the power to the garage in preparation for the work. I then got a call from Mr. Brook stating that the electrician needed to go buy supplies for the work and could I give him $2,500 for the materials. As we had no issues with Mr. Brook, I gladly gave his employee the money. That was pretty much the last we ever saw of him! In the meantime, Mr. Brook was working with the county on permits for the renovation. As usual, the bureaucratic process was not speedy at all!
In the meantime, I was having my home re-roofed and needed hurricane straps added to the trusses in the attic. I spoke with Mr. Brook and he said he could do it for half the price as I was quoted by the roofing company. I hired Mr. Brook for that job as well. That’s where everything fell apart! Mr. Brook hired three people to do the strap work. They ended up taking part of the roof off to get at some of the straps. When they were finished, they put up plastic sheeting to protect the plywood sheathing. Their installation of the plastic was horrible. It rained that night, so water POURED in in every bedroom of my home. I immediately called Mr. Brook in the morning and he did not return my calls. Instead, he sent the employees back to recover the roof. Over the next month, I had a constant fight with Mr. Brook’s employees about getting my home repaired. I had to threaten them with lawsuits in order to get my home back to the way it was before they damaged it. The people he sent had no tools and I had to keep letting them use my tools. Finally, after a month of having my house destroyed, they finished the work. During this entire time, I attempted to contact Mr. Brook. However, he would not return calls or text messages. Instead, he had his employees make communication with me. There were numerous times during the repairs that his employees would say they were coming to work and then never show up or call to say they weren’t coming. My wife took several days away from her work to be home and no one showed up.
Needless to say, after the fiasco with Mr. Brooks’ employees damaging my home, I wanted nothing to do with him or his company on the renovation project. I notified Mr. Book that I no longer wanted his services and I expected a partial refund on the deposit I gave him as well as the money I gave his electrician on Mr. Brooks request. Mr. Brook provided an itemized bill for the wok he had done preparing for the garage renovation. However, he charged me $80 an hour for an employee of his to turn in paperwork with the county. Mr. Brooks at one point also assured me he would refund the money I gave to the electrician and he would deal with that. However, in emails I have gotten from him, he now expects me to wait and see if this person ever gives him the money back.
I have had horrible experiences with companies before. However, none have been as bad as this. From the employment of unskilled people to zero communication from the owner of the company, there are no words to adequately describe the amount of frustration my family has endured due to Mr. Brook. While Mr. Brook did, eventually, repair my home, the mess left behind and my children not being able to sleep in their room for over a week was inexcusable. The worst part of the entire experience was the lack of concern or care for what we were going through by Mr. Brook. In good conscience, I could never recommend Mr. Brook or his company to anyone.
