We hired Dan in 2020 because at the initial consultation he told us he was professional and did quality work. Quality work—yes (mostly). Professional—absolutely not.
There were several problems that occurred when Dan was installing the floor. It wasn’t the problems themselves—those could be fixed—but Dan’s attitude that leaves a lasting impression.
In the living room, Dan had installed a tile with a crack on it. We immediately brought it to his attention and asked him to replace it. Instead, he put glue on it. How could he think that putting a big glob of shiny glue on a matte floor would be okay? Later, I asked him *again* to replace the cracked tile. He got down on his hands and knees in front of the cracked tile, saying, “I can’t even see the crack! You’d need a magnifying glass to see it!”
Seriously, dude?
Before Dan started, we had removed the baseboards and stones around the fireplace so the tiles could end under the stone surrounding our fireplace. Yet when he installed the tile, Dan had cut the tile so far away from the fireplace that there was about a 2-inch gap. I was worried that the gap would show even after putting the fireplace stone back on. I asked Dan to re-cut the tile near the fireplace (so the 2-inch gap wasn’t so big). Instead, he suggested I put back the fireplace stones a different way, turning them upside down so a wider part of the stone would cover up the gap. The fireplace stones fit together like a puzzle, so I insisted for him to re-cut the tiles. When he realized I wouldn’t agree to him leaving the 2-inch gap, he rolled his eyes and scoffed at me.
Dan then brought his employee in the room to tell him what to do with the fireplace gap, saying, “She wants us to replace these tiles, even though she could turn the fireplace stone over and hide the gap.” I was literally RIGHT THERE. To be saying these things about your customer, right in front of them? How unprofessional.
Again, these problems were fixable. But Dan’s attitude was a major issue.
The entire time I spoke to Dan, I was respectful, courteous, and friendly. I did not get the same treatment in return. He gave me pushback, even rolling his eyes, scoffing, and talking shit about me to his employees in MY OWN HOUSE.
Dan’s quality of work was okay, and we are happy with our floor. But the memory of Dan’s rude behavior the entire time he was here leaves a lasting impression.
Would NOT recommend. Spend your valuable money with someone who’s more courteous.
