Writing to just let everyone in the area be aware of an experience our family had with a local construction firm, O'Briens and Sons (www.obriensandsonspavingandmasonry.com). Please share this post as a caution and let your neighbors be aware. Myself and several fellow Long Islanders had work done by a local construction firm, Obrien's Paving & Masonry. The work was a disaster, the owner was a young kid (like 22 years old or so) who was a scam artist - promised you the world, showed you a dazzling website with pictures of beautiful projects from his families 20+ years in business, offered very low rates, was insured, you only paid when job was finished, etc. Well, the day of the job he dumped a bunch of illegal day laborers at your home, excavated and dug up your property, THEN came by and hit you up for money crying that he was desperate for cash or he couldn't pay his workers to come back the next day to finish the project. You were pretty much stuck because your yard is in a shambles at this point. So you give him some money, he comes back, finishes but the project is awful -- the bricks are crooked, cracked, not sealed, the yard is a mess....I could go on and on. The insurance he told you he had was falsified; the projects on the website were all pictures stolen from other contractors sites from all across the state and as far away as Boston (we Google image searched them). When we called him repeatedly to come back and fix the faulty work he gets belligerent, swears, cusses, threatens to call the police on you for "harassing him"....he is a complete nightmare. I wrote a Yelp review sharing this experience no fewer than a dozen people messaged me sharing the same story, saying they are trying to recoup damages from him. There are multiple complaints and lawsuits filed against him on Long Island and with the Suffolk County Department of Consumer Affairs...so many that he eventually took his website offline in New York and went missing. A couple months later, he popped up in New Jersey with a modification to the spelling -- he is now "Obriens" with an "s" at the end. I had saved screen shots of the old website for my court case (which is stalled since he went missing) and a lot of the pictures on the website are the same, AND I ran a search of who owns the domains on each website and each website is registered to the same exact owner!! So I know it is the same person playing the same scam in New Jersey! I then went and left a Yelp review on the NJ page, and sure enough, O'Brien starts messaging me insisting that it is not him and he is a different owner. I told him "I know it is you -- you have the same website and it is registered to the same owner!". He got belligerent and started his cussing. PLEASE -- be very, very cautious and warn your neighbors. This company goes town to town, state to state. They DID NOT DO the projects on their site -- ask to go visit the homes! I can show you Google images of some of these projects from luxury contractors websites on Long Island and Boston. Ask who the "father" is in the business (since it is supposedly a father/son business with 20+ years experience). It isn't. He is a 20 something year old that will show up, give you a lowball estimate, then dump a bunch of day laborers at your home to do your job. He is simply a broker between homeowners and day laborers and goes town to town doing this until the complaints mount - then he'll set up another website. BE CAREFUL!
