Sorta at a loss here. It’s a first for me. Owen came highly recommended. He came by, took a look at the areas that needed flooring and even though it was a bit of a challenge, because a portion of the floor needed to be leveled (about 6 inches) due to a gradual slope, he gave me a reasonable quote. I purchased the flooring materials, we set a date (a few months away) and I thought we were set. As per the quote, I was responsible for removing all furniture (etc) from the 4 rooms getting new flooring and I was to remove the baseboard moldings in those rooms. I did. The week before the schedules appointment rolls around and I call to touch base, see what time he will arrive etc. It takes me a few tries to get him on the phone. Owen says he’s “really busy” with a lot of jobs right now and we will need to reschedule. I’m shocked. Our appointment is literally days away and this is the first I’m hearing of this. Owen says he’s currently on a job, but will check his schedule (to see if he can fit me in on our agreed upon date) since I have the spaces cleared and everything ready and he will call me back that afternoon. Only he does not call me back. I try calling him and go straight to voicemail. (Which is filled by the way) so I am unable to leave a message. I try texting. No response. I call a few more times before going to work. Voicemail. When I get to work I call from my work phone and Owen answers immediately. Now I know rather than cancel our appointment he just blocked me. He answered because he didn’t know it was me. He tries saying we need to reschedule again and I ask him to be honest. I’m willing to reschedule, but it seems as if he has changed his mind and no longer wants to do the job. After a silence, he says it might be best if I look for someone else to do it. (I.e. it was slow when I took the job, but now it’s not and I no longer want to do it). Which would have been fine, if he had told me this a month ago, before I demolished half my house getting ready our appointment. All he had to do was pick up the phone and cancel the appointment when he decided it wasn’t for him. Instead he let me spend a $1000 on flooring/ flooring materials (which are taking up room in my garage) and I spent another $1200 filling in a door in prep for him to level the floor. All of the molding/trim work has been removed in 4 rooms of my house. I have furniture piled up in my dining room, living room and spare bedroom. And now nothing… I suppose I can spend the next 4 days I took off work to be available during the install to put it all back while I start looking for someone else to help me. Even his promises to send me the names of other contractors via text were just a way to appease me and get me off the phone. No surprise… he did not follow through with that either.
Man… seriously? All you had to do was call and cancel the appointment. Instead you allowed me to believe our appointment was going to happen while ghosting me. Your plan was to just not show up and blocked me? You tried to appease me with “rescheduling “ , not once but twice, when you had no intentions of following through. I’ve seen things like this on Judge Judy, but you think it’s not real. Apparently it is.
I just don’t understand what was so difficult about being upfront and cancelling if you no longer wanted the job. Very unprofessional.
