I came to this client and he expected work not included on the quote, after I show him the proposal that clearly stated box by box what he was paying for, he still expected work for free. then I yield and give him free work.. not written or marked on the original signed estimate. after not getting a thank you. we continue our work, he shows up with a flash light and opens the carpet to see in the woven fabric seeking paint drips after us removing our extensive masking, then he expected a fine finish on rustic textured wood, after applying 3 full coats of top quality product he was not happy, so I gave him two more coats for free, wxtending my material and cost of laboor by 35% for a total of 5 coats. Another contractor working on his property mention to me that this home owner had scammed him and made him give him free work and that he was suspicious of him not wanting to pay the bill at all. when he left he handed me his business information and offered to help me as a witness in case of payment refusal. "hot tempered he said" he ended up not wanting to pay, this explained the flashligth on the walls and why he was crawling on the carpet with it. I simply refused to give him 96 hours of total labor plus premium products, being confident about our quality and open for any kind of arbitration he then he exploded and he called me all kinds of profanity on my face and used all kinds of degrading words while spitting all over my face, wow he needed to get his way, it's unfortunate that he felt this way for something unrealistic, I really meant good with all the freebies and extra work, I always strive to give my clients my best, I kept calm and never used any profanity words back. My guys where amazed how calmed and professional I handled the situation and what patience I had with this customer.
