Patrick Pyne was hired to build an inlaw apartment at my home in Weymouth. He started the first week of June completed the foundation and frame then left the jobsite for over a month to work elswhere. Demanded payment before the work was performed. left my home a mess, with roof and siding only partially done. He did not follow the Architect structural plans and has walked of the job without completing it taking his profit for all work not even started. I know will never be able to complete the job within the agreed price because PAtrick Pyne has taken the money upfront before even doing the work. He has now left our home one big unfinished mess with not enough money to have finished. I am so saddened and disgusted at how unprofessional this man is and the way he left the job he was hired to do. He promised to have it done by the end of September and we are now into the end of October with an addition not even half done and not enough money to finish it. I am wondering how it is possible that Buildzoom could even recommend such an unprofessional and shady contractor?

I would NEVER hire or recommend Pat Pyne to anyone. I sent this email to Pat and never receive an adequate response. He has left my property in a mess and the job still not completed. He should have never taken the job, it was clearly over his head. I'm embarrassed I hired him through your company. I had to put a stop payment on a check because the work was not done to agreed upon specifications. I now have an illegal wall on my property. Having an engineer coming Saturday to help me resolve the problems Pat left me. NEVER, NEVER again. Read my email to Pat and you will get this sense of what happened.
Pat, we have a problem.
• You started the wall without a permit (Town requirement)
• You started the wall on the property line rather than 5 feet from the property line as per the plan
• You did not have the engineer come during the process to inspect the wall while it was being built
• Remaining cement blocks on the propertyI now have an illegal wall and you are withholding more pictures of the construction of the wall so the engineer can review your work because I cancelled a check.
I would like you to supply all the pictures you have of the construction of the wall alone with a detailed written explanation of the products (piping, crushed rocks, base material, etc.) used, how they were installed, how the base was constructed, compacted and tested so a permit can be issued and approved. The wall is clearly not high enough to match the grade as outlined in the proposal. There is no drainage pipe in front of the retaining wall to divert the water around the retaining wall or the creation of a drywell to catch the water as outlined in the proposal.
This wall needs to be at the correct high to match the grade (1’-10’ from driveway to wall) and approved by the Town before any further money is given.
I’m shocked I have an illegal wall that was built on my property. I don’t want to think of the consequences the Town could assess me for having this illegal retaining wall sitting directly on my property line.

I would never hire, or recommend Pyne Construction or Patrick J. Pyne to any other homeowner or business seeking his services.
Pyne Construction bid on the demolition, framing, roof, excavation and foundation for our extensive home renovation project in the Spring of 2019. After reviewing other bids, (all within a similar price range) we selected Patrick based on his furnished recommendations and references, as well as one from our architect who had worked other projects with him recently. We also were happy with his enthusiasm and ability to start the project right away. He brought some solid ideas to the drainage plan, and also noted he would be on-site every day working and supervising the job.
Though our design was complex, Patrick did not indicate any hesitation with the plans, which we furnished him for his bid.
We had an agreed, contracted deadline of 12-15 weeks for the project - his portion of the project needed to be completed before the weather turned colder as we needed to be weather tight by that time, and also meet a deadline for our solar project.
After an initial setback we were behind 3 weeks. Then by the end of summer that timeframe was 5-6 weeks behind schedule. We started to be very concerned. Pat was definitely not supervising the job, (showing up limited hours during the week) and his carpenters had questions and were referred regularly to the architect. A lack of supervision resulted in botched work not completed according to plan that required more time to fix or find work-arounds.
After reaching 22 weeks, and the weather dropping to the freezing mark (with our existing home exposed), we (and his own crew) stressed to Pat that he needed to bring in more help. He demanded payment for the agreed change orders, which we paid. He demanded final payment on framing - which we paid very reluctantly, and only after he told us if we didn't pay it he couldn't bring in the needed crew and lumber to finish quickly.
At a meeting to give him this payment he promised to finish the job. He brought in another lumber order and a crew. For exactly 4.5 days things looked to be ok. But the following Monday no crew showed up - not even his. Without notice, he picked up all his gear on site, and removed the portable restroom that he contracted for the crew. Sure enough, he abandoned the project.
After numerous attempts to reach him by all methods possible, text, voicemail, e-mail, through his subcontractors, we received no response. We also learned that he did not pay his subcontractors for the work performed after he took our payment which was specifically intended to pay them.
He left our family with an unfinished home exposed to the elements. We are now paying twice for the work Pat was supposed to complete per his contract, plus work to repair damage and fix work that was not done correctly – including the drainage work which was never completed correctly and backs mud into our garage every time it rains. Absolute worst case scenario.
We have reached out to other reviewers on this site and this seems to be a consistent pattern with his behavior.
We have complaints filed with the HIC licensing agencies and consumer protection groups, and spoke to our local police department as well. We strongly urge you to consider this review if you are selecting Pyne Construction for your project.
