  Driveway and Sidewalk Replacement

  Contract delivered 3/5/2021 for job to remove existing sidewalk, front door landing, driveway and to re-pour new concrete - including expanding width of our driveway. Mike never required a deposit after offered it several times and just said we could pay in full at end of job. All concrete and dirt was removed and used as fill in our backyard by end of day on April 13th. During this time my wife had asked Mike if he and his crew would be willing to install the retaining wall for us since they were already here and we had the material. They agreed to a price for the entire job, including the retaining wall. Mike and his crew returned April 16th to pour the concrete. We were apprehensive about them pouring the concrete that day because the weather was rainy on and off and Mike kept reassuring us he would be delivering a “perfect product”. Once the concrete was poured, and they were wrapping up the concrete finishing, everything seemed to be done perfectly and we were very happy with the job initially. Mike was provided a check for the concrete portion of the job.

  It wasn’t until the concrete started curing that we started to notice major imperfections. The entry of our driveway started to show extreme discoloration and aggregate began to surface. We brought this to Mikes attention and his solution was an overlay after the concrete was cured (which we were advised by other contractors that an overlay would be a temporary fix and what was happening to our concrete was called honeycombing).

  Mikes foreman, Kevin, arrived April 19th to begin our retaining wall. He “finished” the following day on April 20th after requiring additional material. Once they were wrapping up my wife shared with Mike that the retaining wall didn’t appear complete. The wall did not return along the sidewalk steps which was explained to Kevin we do not do landscaping for a living so that’s not something we thought we had to explain. We still paid an additional money we agreed to Mike via Venmo in good faith they would come back and address our concerns.

  Mike was made aware of the areas of the job that we wanted corrected and he made no effort of completing our job or making it a priority in his schedule. My wife reached out to Mike several times before she received a response on April 25th with no positive outcome. He told her that he would agree to replace the concrete for cost of material since we did not want the overlay he offered.

  Mike sent Kevin to our house on the morning of May 17th, without notice and after weeks of not hearing anything from him on when he would be returning to finish our job, and at that point we decided replacing one section of the driveway that was sinking in and surfacing aggregate would result in a mix matched colored driveway and even more obvious discoloration of the concrete. Kevin left and my wife followed up with Mike explaining our position.

  Later, that same evening, while my wife and daughter were sleeping, our neighbor called me and said there was someone that parked around the corner from our street and walked onto our property around 11:30 PM. They said it appeared the guy was taking pictures. Our neighbor called law enforcement and followed the guy out of our neighborhood. After review of surveillance, the vehicle was Mike foreman, Kevin. I reached out to Mike for an explanation as to why his employee was showing up to our property in the middle of the night, he had no explanation nor would take responsibility.

  This really was unusual and concerning that one of Mike’s employees would show up to our home in the middle of the night to allegedly take pictures. His response was less than sincere, and that what his employees do on their own time is none of his concern.

  One of the most unprofessional experiences I’ve ever encountered. Obviously the only reason one of Mikes employees would be showing up at our house would be pertaining to the concrete issues we brought to his attention.

  The whole result in dealing with this company and owner was unsatisfying and unprofessional. We asked for at least a partial refund but was denied. All of the concrete that was poured was finished poorly and will all need replaced.

  These guys are completely unprofessional. Did a terrible job, we had to redo everything they did. Do yourself a big favor and hire someone else!!
