This guy scammed my mom out of a lot of money. His pitch was that his father came through the area about 15 years ago and now Matt Sherlock and Pete Carroll have taken over the company. They gave a hard, fast sales pitch that would make your head spin. We wanted a lot of buildings painted, and paint scraped off, roofs fixed. They never scraped off any old, dead paint. They painted over the windows and skylights on the buildings. They did this on a very windy day and there was paint spray on the vehicles, mowers, you name it. Matt wanted a check right away and he ran to town to cash it in a blaze. This was a big job, and they never came back to finish the job they were paid for. I hope these guys rot in hell for what they are doing.

Mr. Sherlock painted a barn roof somewhere between 2018 and 2019 for my father-in-law. My father-in-law died in 21 and the barn was in horrible shape. He said that he would paint the barn for a very reasonable amount and did it. Not even a year later it is peeling horribly once again. He gave me a five year guarantee, A guarantee, which is not worth the time it took for him to write it. I have repeatedly tried to contacted him, and he has not returned any messages since April. At this point, unless something changes soon, I would give this man not even one star if I didn’t have to.

Showed up while husband was sitting outside, said they would paint our pole barn for so much money. Has a great power washer (did not work) and would be done in one day. While the painter was painting the old guy kept asking for the payment, said they needed the money. Husband told him not till the job was done. Rushed painter to get done before the banks closed. When I gave them the check they rushed right up to the bank and cashed it. The painter was still scrapping the paint off the windows that he was told not to tape. As soon as they had the cash they told him to stop and took off. Paint job was ok, not great, could have been better. Do not use these guys, they are not professional and do not do a great job.

By LaurenJuly 18, 2019Paint my metal barn room$2,000
It hasn’t even been a month and these guys pulled up at my barn in Montrose, PA June 2019 to paint my metal roof, quoted me $2 k to do the job, he promised to screw the roof down, fix all the leaks and paint it. When he finished the job the roof leaked worse then it did before. Promised to come back that following Monday and never showed and will not return any phone calls.

Mr. Sherlock did a roof coating job for us that totaled $5400.00. Gave a ten year warranty. The roof still leaks in more spots then when he done the job. We have tried to call him multiple times and can't get him to answer the phone. He did the job May 11th 2018.

I am from Minnesota. Pete promised me many times that he would be back and move the lumber and other things back where they were to complete the job. He NEVER came back even after many phone calls assuring me that he'd send someone to finish. He left the empty cans and did a poor job prepping. Paint on the concrete, painted over the gas valve and pipes, etc.
DO NOT hire this guy. -

Two white men who seemed to have the names of John Mack / Tom Sherlock (for the record, nobody called themselves Pete) came by here in northern Montgomery County Maryland the last weekend of Sept 2017 out of the blue and offered to paint the metal roof of my old house for $1000 if we would pay cash. It was a Saturday afternoon about 2:30 PM. I was already aware of these guys because my neighbor had talked to me about them after they sprayed his metal roof and he was happy with their work. These guys had painted the neighbor earlier in the week and the neighbor was satisfied given the cheap price of $1000 cash to paint his metal roof (he had received estimates from other people for up to $6000 for the job except it would include scraping). The deal was they would spray my roof with a rubberized silver paint. It had to be silver paint because that's all they had. No scraping or sanding, just spraying was the deal. It included a 7-year warranty, although he said it would probably last longer. And the $1000 deal was, he had to do the work that afternoon. He claimed to be bonded and insured although I didn't see any proof. So I hired him but couldn't pay him cash. We agreed I would give him a little cash and the rest in a check payable to him which he was to cash Monday morning when the bank opened. I was to pay him after the job was completed. Tom was on the roof with a couple African-Americans which Tom said they got from "The Mission." Some homeless place closer to DC or Baltimore I guess. They didn't use safety ropes or masks. As they were finishing up and it was almost dark Saturday evening, John wanted to be paid. I paid him the cash and a check. He gave me a receipt with Tom Sherlock written in an ink pen at the top, and an address in N. Augusta, SC, even though he said he was living at least temporarily in Hagerstown Maryland at the time. And I also have a business card I got from my neighbor titled Sherlock Sealcoating with the name Tom Sherlock printed on it, and "John" written in ink pen above it. It was my understanding that the two white men I dealt with were brothers seven years apart - one of them, Tom, the younger one, has a slight speech impediment. These two men have similar faces and looked to be brothers. They also said they were brothers. However, I don't quite understand why/if they have different last names. Nonetheless, the check was made payable to John Mack. However, as dark fell, I could see the slender edges of my metal roof, the part that folds down an inch or two towards the ground - he had missed three of the four sides of the house. He promised he'd come back tomorrow, Sunday, and do it. He said he was low on paint, it was almost dark, and also they had a smaller spray tool that would do a better job. So I paid him on a handshake. Sunday John and the crew came back and did my neighbor's house across the street, and John indicated to me they'd finish my house as agreed. He said "I'm an honest man." But later in the afternoon Tom came over and said his employee was tired and if I'd mind if they came back Monday to finish since it was a Sunday. I agreed. I shook hands with Tom - a very firm handshake. Monday morning the check was cashed. "Tom Sherlock" signed the back, even though the check was made payable to John Mack. They did not return Monday and I never saw them again. I knew there was a chance they wouldn't return - I accepted the risk. So although they were dishonest about returning, I don't really feel I was cheated. All in all, I am satisfied with the job and I think I got my money's worth at the very least. There are not many people in this world willing to paint a high steep metal roof on an old farm house for $1000. My neighbors are also satisfied.

Pete Sherlock painted our barn roofs 10-15 years ago, came back, painted our barns & buildings, & just now did our hay barn roof. His paint job lasted just as expected, he didn't do a bad job, the price was fine. We just didn't have the problems others have noted. Granted, he's not local, he's not coming back anytime soon, there are no guarantees,I know that upfront, the job is done & looks good. If it lasts another 10-15 years, I'm okay with it.

Mr. Sherlock is not an criminal milking people out of money going door to door in IA and IL farms doing horrible paint jobs for money on barns. Google his name and paint scams in IA and IL. One star isn't even good for him.
