    Large-scale landscaping project
    $117,000

    Avoid. Project experienced long delays (job took a year, when contract specified a few months), inferior work, replaced items specified in the contract with cheaper ones, tried to submit fake invoices. After a winter rain, structures collapsed and had to be redone by another contractor, who gave us an earful on how poorly the job was executed.

    I hired Bill (William Thomas, Picturesque Landscape) in 2009 to do work at my new home. He claimed to be able to not only do landscape design/install, but also concrete, firepits, barbecue islands, patio covers, custom outdoor lighting, etc. He claimed to be able to do it all.

    He hires illegal workers yet certifies to the State License Board that he has no employees. They do sub-standard, ugly, not-to-code work. I had to have gas lines repaired since they handled them incorrectly.

    He asked for separate checks (one to his company and one to him personally). He informed me that he was being audited and didn't want all of the money going through his business account.

    He over-charged me for inferior work. The patio covers were being built with undersized beams. The columns were not built correctly. The cover was creaking before the roof tiles were installed. There were so many more problems. Needless to say, I fired him before all of the work was done.

    I realized after the fact that I had paid the contract in full already. I immediately filed a complaint with the state. I did receive the bond money, however I had to have the incomplete patio covers completely demolished and rebuilt. He was building a fireplace with a 3-inch vent ("chimney") that ended UNDER the patio eave (WOOD)!!!

    He never installed the lighting, grass or all of the plantings. The irrigation is a complete mess. The state found him guilty on so many counts of negligence and working outside of his classification.

    He refused to respond to the state regarding requests for mediation. The state found that he owes me over $33,000. Then, he filed for bankruptcy and now owes me NOTHING!! I just found that his license has been reinstated. How this is allowed to happen is beyond me. He is able to just walk away owing nothing for all of the mess he left behind and his illegal work that could have caused personal harm.

    DO NOT HIRE WILLIAM (BILL) THOMAS! DO NOT HIRE PICTURESQUE LANDSCAPE CO.!!!!!
