    *******BUYER BEWARE******

Please take great caution hiring Platinum Sand Construction to do any job for you. You will want to research the their last 9 months of reviews and lawsuits prior to signing a contract. We made the unfortunate decision to go under contract with Platinum Sand in Jan 2022 and was by far the worst financial decision we have ever made. The Slick talking Scott Nalbach and Drew Guido sold us on a dream kitchen and renovation that they assured us would turn out beautiful and that they could absolutely complete in just a couple months. They were both very responsive and communicative prior to our deposit, but that all changed once under contract and given them a deposit. When we signed the contract that had a lot of 5 star reviews so we felt comfortable giving them 50% large deposit. They stated that had to start our renovation in June and by doing so would have it completed by time my son went back to school in August. It is now March 2023 and they have 75% of the money and about 20% of the job complete. In 9 months they have only done Demo (not complete as they forgot to chip the tile glue up), improperly installed cabinets, Horribly sloppy paint job, electric, and plumbing. This has forced us to live in one room with 3 people for the past 9 months with our entire down stairs nothing but concrete floor, NO KITCHEN at all (no running water, no countertops, and no appliances. We are have literally have been held hostage by them and confined to 1 bedroom for 3 of us to live out, a Pod in our driveway for 9 months costing us $300.00 a month, and forced to eat out every meal for 9 months. The added expenses for food and pod have literally crippled us financially, we put our ENTIRE life savings down cash as the 75% deposit thinking doing the right thing to not take out a loan, now we have no choice but take a Home equity line of credit to hire a real contractor to basically start all over from scratch so all the work completed was not done to professional standards. We now have to look at taking on the additional expense of hiring an attorney to sue Platinum Sand construction to attempt to recover some of the damages they have caused us. Scott refused to issue us a prorated refund for work already completed and states he can get it done but not for another 5 months since it appears their business is collapsing around them as they have 3 total people including Scott that works for him. I truly hope anyone reading this takes this review very seriously and does not hire them for their renovations as you will be incredibly disappointed and financially sorry you did.

    whole-house renovation

If you're considering hiring Platinum Sand Construction, here are a few suggestions from two people who had a bad experience with them on a whole-house renovation:
    • Spend a few hundred dollars to have a lawyer experienced in construction and contractor issues go over the contract before you sign. Make sure that the contract is specific about ALL of the work that needs to be completed BEFORE each "progress payment" is required. Don't pay them just based on some vague benchmarks while they tell you that smaller things will be taken care of along the way or during "punch out" at the end.
    • Do not pay them more than 5% when you sign the contract, and no more than another 5 - 10% when demolition is complete (let your lawyer guide you on those numbers). They will probably tell you that they need more in order to buy materials and get the job started, but we found that months later they hadn't ordered things that they told us had been ordered. We made the mistake of paying them too much at contract signing, and then too much after demolition. Then they demolished our kitchen, leaving dirt and dust everywhere, and leaving us with no usable kitchen for over 4 months - until we finally had to fire Platinum Sand and hire a competent contractor to give us back our kitchen and finish the job.
    • So be sure they don't get too far ahead of you on payments - our project cost us tens of thousands of dollars more than it should have because we made that mistake - ultimately having to hire a new contractor.
    • Even though Platinum Sand claims to have their own crews, most of the workers (painters, plumbers, electricians) are likely to be sub-contractors. Make sure that each one provides a C.O. I. (certificate of insurance) with your name on their policy before they enter your house.
    • In general, be aware that Platinum Sand is either not as careful, or not as knowledgeable (or maybe both) as you might hope they would be. In our house they made mistakes in electrical, painting, and plumbing which we had to pay the new contractor to fix. One example is that they painted all of the doors in our house with latex paint, before properly prepping the old oil-based finish. As a result, paint is now peeling off the doors, and the only solution is to remove the doors, strip them completely, and re-paint (that little mistake alone will cost us thousands to fix).
    • Be aware that they may promise things that don't exist or that they can't deliver (like the color and finish we chose for our bathroom vanities which, by the time they got around to ordering them, had been discontinued by the manufacturer!). And don't ask for anything unusual, because they seem to be incapable of thinking "outside the box."
    • Do not let them talk you out of getting permits, because if you end up with substandard electrical or plumbing, at least the inspector will be there to catch it.
    • During the hiring process they introduced us to a person who they identified as our "project manager." That person came to our house exactly 2 times in the four months before we fired them.
If you do decide to hire Platinum Sand Construction, good luck!

    Bathroom Remodel

We used Platinum Sand for a bathroom renovation in the Fall 2021. Friends of ours had work done over the previous few years with good results. However, it turned out that this was a different Platinum Sand than they had described, and turned into a horrendous experience.

Throughout the project it was apparent that they were way overextended and poorly managed. Week after week came and went with many days – even weeks – when they never showed up. The result was a drawn out process lasting more than 3 months. Worse still, they showed little respect for us to the point where they ridiculed us frequently and even threatened to walk off the job. While they claimed to use their own workers, they hired an inferior plumber who installed our shower valve incorrectly and a third party tile installer that took 8 days to install our shower wall and floor when they even admitted should have only taken 3.

At the end, they left us with a plumbing problem that should have been handled under their warranty. However, after they failed to return my call, we decided to bite the bullet and hire a licensed plumber to correct the issue.

In summary, the owners of Platinum Sand are greedy, pompous, and disrespectful, and cannot be trusted. And their workmanship is average at best. They claim they their goal is to be the number 1 renovation contractor in South Florida. Based on their performance and attitude, I would not even give them one star.

    Bathroom remodel

We are beyond thrilled to have found a fantastic contractor to renovate our master bath. Prior to contracting with them, we did our homework. We didn’t want a rush/hack job to take this on, and with the pandemic, we understood time frame changes and material delays. Every pro that worked on our bathroom was on time and took great care during each phase of remodel ( the tile pro is an ARTIST!). From Drew in sales to Nate our project manager, we couldn’t be happier with the outcome and professional customer service from start to finish. Our bathroom went from dated and leaky to modern and exquisite. We highly recommend!
