Design and build a swimming pool
    $140,000

If there was a less than 1 star review, it would be too generous for Chris Michaels. Like so many others, even families that were taken to the cleaners and reported the issues on local news stations, this guy still seems to hoodwink unsuspecting people. Our experience was similar to all the others. Chris Michael's will sell you on his designs and promises an amazing pool building experience. We had to have our pool re-plastered 3 times before we ever stepped foot into it -- as the first time the formulation was not right and it looked like a marble swirl, the second time the plaster checked (cracked) terribly before completely filling it with water and the third time, we basically gave up. Each replaster requires the previous plaster coating to be chipped away at the tile line. Imagine the 3rd coat being thicker than the tile line. Chris also tried to blame the start up team to which they called bullshit on him - grateful for honest people. They told Chris that the plaster was put on incorrectly and that was on him. Then after all the replumbing work, 3rd plaster coat, only to find that the pool had sunk an inch or more! So what appears level on one side of the pool now appears much lower (out of level) on the other. Used the tile line as the gauge to see if your pool is level - assuming the tile is laid level. We had to have a structural engineer assess what had happened to cause the pool to sink. Chris, not his company would even respond to my calls nor the engineers that had questions.

As with all the other families and individuals that have reported on Chris Michaels, Chris was no where to be found, wouldn't answer his phone nor communicate what could be done once you threatened him. He's great about taking your money, but offers no recourse when there are problems. We ended up having to hire another pool company to determine if the pool was even stable to keep as is or should it be drained, restructured with more rebar and re-gunited again. Imagine spending close to $140K for a swimming pool disaster!

Fast forward almost 10 years and my kids and I run into him at Fuzzy's tacos in Allen. I had long since forgotten about Chris Michaels -- not worth my time to dwell on this low-life. I happened to look over a few tables away and I see Chris Michael's with I assume his wife and he's pointed to me. I knew I knew him, but couldn't place it immediately. His wife waved at me and then it occurred to me who it was. The rush of adrenaline cursed through my veins. I had 2 choices - set the right example for my daughters or go over to his table and remind him of his thievery and immoral conduct and perhaps pound the crap out of the guy. I chose the moral high ground and used it as a lesson to my kids that there are people like this in the world that think nothing of messing with other people's lives and taking their money. I was surprised that Chris is still around -- he never looked healthy (overweight) and would have thought by now someone might have taken to solving the problem (Chris) in their own way.

It's sad that there are people like Chris Michael's, but his day will either come sooner or later.

Hopefully if enough people populate the internet with the name Chris Michaels, NTX Pool, and all the other phony companies he's been associated with, we can stop the problem once and for all!

    In-Ground Pool

I would definitely NOT recommend Chris Michaels dba Poolscapes NTX. Our pool building experience has been a nightmare! Once he got our last payment, getting the pool completed was like pulling teeth. He didn't properly supervise his workers so things were done incorrectly. The plumbing was put in backwards and had to be reworked. The electrician was putting the electric box in backwards and we caught it. Chris was rarely there when the work was being done. I would have to send him pictures or call him when we noticed something being done incorrectly. We had to stay on him constantly to get the pool completed. Every little thing that needed to be finished, I felt like I had to beg just to get it done. We discovered a jet that wasn't working that he tried to convince me was just plugged with plaster. Once he finally sent someone out here, we found out that the plumbing wasn't even connected, so they had to dig several feet under the decking to connect it. I have expressed concerns over the appearance of the plaster since the day it was sprayed. 10 months later, he is still trying to blame it on my pool service, even though I was texting him pictures and expressing concern about the plaster the day it was sprayed and the days following and have been trying to get this resolved off and on over the past 10 months. His response basically is too bad and he passes the buck...trying to blame it on my pool service. We spent a lot of money on this pool and instead of trying to do the right thing and fix the plaster, he texts me that I am wrong and this is not his fault. He sent people out that specifically told me that the issue was with his start-up chemical service. When I told him that, he told me that I was wrong…when he didn’t even bother to show up to this meeting…and when I asked his guys when they told me this to please make sure that they explained it to Chris that the problem was with his start-up chemical guy not doing the chemicals correctly since he keeps trying to blame my pool service. We were never even given instructions for start-up for our pool! Once the pool was filled, I had no idea what I was even supposed to do to make sure the pool cured correctly. Chris’ customer service is terrible, and his demeanor is shockingly unprofessional. I was fooled in the beginning with his sales pitch. Don't be fooled. Don’t walk – BUT RUN AWAY from this pool builder. I have noticed with other complaints written about Chris Michaels that he has an excuse why it isn’t his fault…but don’t fall for it. I am sure that he has built some great pools. However, when there is a problem, he won’t own up to it and do what needs to be done to correct it. We have another friend that used him and is not happy with Chris Michaels either…we just wish we would have found out before we signed a contract with him. I am a small business owner and I would never treat my customers the way I have been treated by Chris Michaels. If I did, I would not be in business very long. Don’t take a chance with this pool builder. Save yourself a lot of grief. Dealing with him on this pool has been one of my worst construction nightmares.
