Our Promise
Picture
We will never enter your house without shoe protection. We will always use tarps and drop cloths to protect the work area. We will never smoke at or around your property. We will never use profanity at any time during your service appointment. We will always be polite, courteous, and professional to you, your family members, and neighbors. We will always pay close attention to detail, and provide the highest quality chimney cleaning and inspection.
Chimney Sweep Details
Picture
A chimney sweep is performed primarily to remove the dangerous creosote buildup which is highly flammable. The creosote build up creates a fire hazard, and must be removed regularly to safely operate the fireplace. The creosote is basically unspent fuel.

Additionally, the chimney sweep allows any defects in the fireplace and chimney system to be exposed for evaluation. In a masonry fireplace the fireplace damper must be removed to gain the appropriate amount of access to the smoke chamber for a thorough cleaning and inspection. If your sweep doesn't remove the damper then the cleaning and inspection is not being done properly.

We always use drop cloths and protect the work area while performing a chimney cleaning. We take extra precaution with drop cloths, tarps, gloves, booties, and a high powered vaccum with specialized filters to control dust.
Masonry Fireplace
Picture
A masonry fireplace and chimney are brick and mortar. They can house many different types of inserts or be used as an open wood burning fireplace. The standard practice for cleaning is to sweep them from the top down, and is our preferred method. We carry several extension ladders on each truck and temporary scaffolding that attaches to our ladders when needed. It is unlikely that we cannot get on your roof. In the unlikely event that the roof is not accessible the sweep can be performed from the bottom up.

Make sure damper is closed or fireplace is sealed off
Sweep the flue from the top down into the smoke chamber with specialized brushes. Prefab fireplaces are swept from the bottom up.
Remove ashes and creosote from fireplace
Disassemble and remove damper
Thoroughly brush smoke chamber
Vacuum out smoke chamber and smoke shelf
Vacuum out fireplace
Clean glass doors and glass door trim
PERFORM NFPA 211 FIREPLACE AND CHIMNEY INSPECTION
Reinstall damper and check damper operation

Prefabricated Fireplace
Picture
A prefabricated fireplace has round chimney pipe that will usually run through a vinyl or wood chimney chase. They also commonly go straight through the attic and out of the roof with no chimney chase needed. In rare cases they are housed in a brick chimney, but that is not a typical set up. Because of the structure of a prefabricated fireplace it is better to carefully sweep the chimney pipe from the bottom up and vacuum up the creosote as it falls into the fireplace. This is different from the masonry fireplace because of the configuration, and because of the very fine dust created during the cleaning process. We take this into careful consideration and stage the fireplace appropriately before beginning the process.

Stage the fireplace opening with tarps, vacuum, and brushes to carefully control dust.
Sweep the flue pipe from the bottom up with specialized prefab brushes
Remove all ashes and creosote from fireplace walls, floor, and crevices
Clean glass doors and glass door trim
PERFORM NFPA 211 FIREPLACE AND CHIMNEY INSPECTION
check damper operation
Wood Stove
Picture
A wood stove can either be installed as an insert or as free standing. A wood stove insert is inserted into a masonry fireplace and usually without a proper lining. Many wood stove inserts are just pushed into a fireplace, trimmed, and operated without connecting a direct connect or positive connection liner. In these cases the stove must be pulled out to clean out behind it after completing the chimney sweep. If a lining is installed as illustrated to the left the stove does not need to be pulled out and the pipe can be swept directly into the stove.
