By a user in GermantownMarch 24, 2018Asphalt RepairRead more
Max Lucas gave me a price ($1,800.00) to remove and patch two small areas of blacktop saying he would use cold patch instead of hot patch asphalt. He requested a deposit of 50% to be paid the day he was to start the job so he could purchase materials. The job also included approximately 200 feet of crack repair using a melting asphalt tape to be applied then heated. He said he would be here at 9:00 AM. He did not show by 9:30 and we left. He showed up at 10:00 AM and started the crack repair. When we returned about 1:00 PM he had the tape in place but had not yet applied heat. I noticed that there was considerable loose aggregate under the tape and asked why he hadn't cleaned the cracks. His statement is that the loose stuff would not make a difference and proceeded to apply the heat. I told him I was not happy with his work but since he had started to finish just the crack repair and leave the rest undone. He completed the job at about 4:00 PM after running out to get a refill on the propane tank and when it cam time to settle up he requested $200.00 more than the crack and patch repair was originally quoted at! His comment was that the materials were expensive. Remember he asked for a deposit to purchase materials but since I wasn't here when he showed up he told me he charged the materials. At this time I asked to see the receipt for the materials and he gave me a song and dance that he doesn't get a copy of the pick up ticket from his supplier. So for 6 hours of labor and about $200.00 (my estimate) of materials he wants $2,000.00! We will be in negotiations about this.

By CathyFebruary 4, 2018Sealcoat Driveway
Before Larry Lucas did our job he asked for and got 50% up front. On Saturday morning he got to our house the driveway was damp. He put the sealcoat on the driveway even though it was damp, that evening we had light rain so Sunday morning the driveway was still not dry, Sunday evening we had rain showers and the water ran off the roof to our our garage hit the driveway and splattered the sealcoat up 3' on the siding and up 3' on one garage door and light splatter to the other 2 garage doors and siding to our house and garage. His answer after he had been paid in full before the job was completed... "ACT OF GOD, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE" So we still have the sealcoat all on our 3 year old siding and garage doors 4 months later. Would not recommend this company.

Max Lucas did my front steps. What he told me would be a 2 day job turned into almost a month. Once he demolished my front steps he told me it would be an extra charge to remove the debris. He would not show up for days. He left a tarp on my front yard for 2 weeks, killing all the grass underneath. When he finished the job we paid him the last installment. It was after he left and the brick dried that I noticed there was mortar all over the front steps. I called him and asked him to come back and clean it up. Max told me he would come back tomorrow. Well, we never saw or heard from him again. I called him 8 times and he will not return my calls. I now need to hire some one else to come and clean up the mess he left behind.

Been using the services of Protech Paving Sealcoating for a number of years to expand, resurface and seal our driveway. Last Fall the owner, Larry Lucas came by with some bluestone that was purchased by the homeowner from previous job in the neighborhood. That job was never finished because of the poor quality of work and incorrect materials that were used unbeknownst to us. Larry came by and said he could use the bluestone to repave our front walk. He said that he would also sealcoat our driveway. Both jobs to include labor and materials. The repaved walk started to break apart about a month after completion due to the incorrect type of stone. Stone for walkways should be at least an inch thick or thicker. A bunch of what he used was about 1/4" to 1/2" thick and couldn't stand up to the weight when walked on or the weather. The mortar/cement that he used did not hold the stones in place and a number of them gave way. Early in the Spring we told Larry to remove it because of said reasons. He had no problems breaking the stone up and removing it since we were not happy. He claimed he knew what he was doing but when he saw the mess when it was falling apart, he said the people where he got the stone from said it was the correct stone. 1/4" thick bluestone is used for ornamental purposes, not walkways. The mortar/cement (gator dust) was supposed to be indestructible but crumbled like dust. He hasn't returned to even do our driveway or return the $2900 that we gave him. Feeling sorry for Larry, my son and I pitched in to help break up the stone and load the mess onto a trailer while his own son (who works for the company) sat in the truck and texted on his phone. I am very upset and would not recommend this company for any type of work. We also found out after the fact that the company license has expired on 9/29/16.
