    Driveway installation
    $6,000

Avoid. Bad driveway installation and failure to properly correct. On 5/7/2019, Mike removed our old driveway, put down crushed stone and finished it with asphalt. During the last few passes with the steam roller the blacktop separated in several places down the center of the driveway, in line with the edge of the roller drum. These cracks and gaps were evident at the completion of the job. While not offering an explanation for the gaps, Mike assured me that he would correct the issue and “make it right”. Four days later Mike returned and filled the cracks with a sand-like material which he said would work. A week later Mike sent a crew to sealcoat the entire driveway, despite the fact that the asphalt hadn’t fully cured. The crew laid the sealant on thick over the cracks and coated the rest of the driveway. It looked horrible and I wasn’t pleased or confident in the solution. Within a year the areas where the cracks were located were chipping and deteriorating. I contacted Mike on 3/16/21, while still under his “warranty”, and sent photos of the areas. His solution was to send another crew to reseal the driveway again, and I told Mike that covering up the problem areas with sealcoat was not the solution. Again, within the year the areas were deteriorating and the cracks were visible. I contacted Mike on 5/14/23, and told him that “patchwork” continues to come apart, the driveway looks terrible and that his solution has not worked since the driveway was installed. At that time he asked for a copy of our contract and I sent updated photos. After not hearing back from him I contacted him on 8/6/23. His response was that if we seal coated it again that it “should be fine”. I told him that was not acceptable, since the issues were there from the start and not being solved by covering them with sealcoat. He kept claiming that the work was done 5 1/2 years ago, (not the actual 4 yrs, 3 months), and the warranty was only for two years. I reminded him that these problems were evident from the beginning and not issues which just appeared years later. He then started claiming that I had a drainage problem, and that he would come to take a look at it. He came to my house when it was getting dark and he immediately began looking at my leaders and downspouts. He then claimed that the issue causing the cracks was water coming down the driveway from a single downspout which empties an overhang for a small porch. Ignoring the fact that the cracks were physically there in the driveway from the first day, he expects me now to believe it was caused by rainwater on the driveway. Complete nonsense. The fact of the matter is, for whatever reason the blacktop separated and caused cracks during the installation. Whether that was due to the temperature of the asphalt or insufficient compaction, our whatever else may cause it, it was NOT caused by poor drainage. During the meeting Mike refused to listen to my concerns, talked over me and got loud and defensive when I asked him questions about the initial installation. At one point I asked him how long should someone wait to seal new asphalt and he said “six months”. I then told him that he had sealed my driveway after two weeks, to which he replied “six days or six months, it doesn’t matter”. Needless to say, Mike offered nothing but excuses for his substandard work. Rather that do the right thing and correct a mistake, he opted to cover up the mistake and when that didn’t work, he came up with another excuse. If you are looking for an honest contractor who stands by his work, takes pride in it, and will do the right thing, look elsewhere.

Hi my name is Ann sutton and me and my husbend Dr.John sutton from Lansdale pa, had our back patio done, we also had a brick oven pizza oven installed in our back yard , since i love the food channel and so many neat things you can do with a brick oven . The Purcell Paving team did an amazing job, with the ep henry bricks, they made everything super clean when finished, they done the job fast and on time with high exsperiance and confidence which made me and my husbend stress free. one of the workers Mike was there with us every step of the way , from picking out the stone and exsplaining in every detail of the joband how it will be carried out. The price range was fair and in our budget. I would rate this company a five star.
