Signed a contract for outdoor project. Paid 1/2 upfront. After 6 weeks, he was unable to secure permit. After 8 weeks, I asked for refund. He was unable to refund - inadequate funds. Said he had spent the money on other things.
Signed a contract for a Pergola and deck extension on 21 March 2019. Contractor unable to get permit approved after 6 weeks. Later found out he did not even have a current contractor's registration with my town which is required.
After 8 weeks, contractor had not even started any work. Did not show up or contact me on the day he said construction would start. Asked for refund and contractor agreed. Signed a check but stated he did not have sufficient funds to cash it yet. He said he had already spent the $$ on other stuff. I agreed to wait 1 week for funds to be sufficient. Contacted the contractor after a week and he said he still doesn't have the money and cannot pay me back. In sum, took the $$ and never did anything on the project. No materials, no prep, nothing.
Let this be a warning for others.
