By Barry B.June 9, 2014Pushy on the Phone
We were in the market for a kitchen remodel so when this company called we made an appointment. The sales person was really pushy on the phone. We made an appointment anyway. Someone called the day before they were supposed to come over to confirm. The day of no one showed up. We looked up the website for quality remodeling and design to get the business phone number and no one answered the phone, not even an answering machine or answering service. I really don't know if they really exist. As I read on I see people have had problems with them and the ones with 5 starts look like they come from the same place....probably the company in Torrance, Ca. I am so happy that Buildzoom is on line and I am happy we didnt get involved with them,

By Eleonore G.May 16, 2014Remodel a small bathroom$5,09435 daysNightmare!Read more
Quality Remodeling & Design contacted me in response to a request I submitted on HomeAdvisor.com for a cost estimate to remodel a small bathroom. A salesman named Dave came to my house and gave me a quote of $5,094. We signed a contract which stated that the work would begin on March 20, 2014, and be completed by March 28, 2014. Dave told me that he personally would be project manager and come to my house every day to oversee the work. I showed Dave the other home improvement projects I planned to do at a later date as I could afford it. The next day, he showed up with a contract listing all the work I told him I wanted to do with a total price of $61,000. He told me that the price included a 20% “discount,” which would have made the total contract price without the discount a whopping $76,250! In addition to that, I would still have to purchase the fixtures like cabinets, lighting, tile, etc. He told me that that was a reasonable price for all the work involved. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, and I told him that I didn’t have the money and couldn’t afford to do all the work at once. He said that he could get me financing. Foolishly, I trusted him and signed the contract. Afterward, I felt very uneasy about committing to such a large expenditure and told him I was canceling that contract. The next day, Dave brought Sean with him to convince me that it was a good price, they would arrange all the financing, I could afford it, that they had already purchased materials, etc. I felt pressured into signing the contract, but, still feeling very uncomfortable, I told Dave the following day that I would not commit to that contract. Then the company CEO, Haim Shiri(“Jeff”), called me and claimed that I owed him $3,000 for arranging financing, plus another $5,000 for the materials they already purchased. I told him that I wanted to see proof that he paid $3,000 in fees to finance companies (I checked with those companies later, and they said that they do not charge any fees for getting financing). He backtracked on that point. I told him that we would purchase any materials he already bought and we would pick them up at his warehouse. He then said that he was returning the materials and that there would be a $700 restocking charge. I asked him why he was returning the materials when I offered to purchase them. At that point, he ended the conversation.
I still kept the contract for the bath remodel, which was supposed to be finished on March 28. Five weeks later, the only work that had been done was 1) a floor plan was drawn, 2) the old tile in the shower surround was removed, and 3) a new plumbing pipe was installed to convert the bath to a shower. I sent notice to Dave and Jeff that I was canceling the contract for breach of contract and non-performance, and that I wanted my $1,509 deposit back. Then the CEO, Haim Shiri, called me and claimed that I owed him another $1,000. I told him that the $1,509 I already paid far exceeded the value of the work that was actually done. I asked him to prove that I owed him more money, and he shot back, “I don’t have to prove anything to you,” threatened to put a lien on my property, and hung up on me. My attorney later sent a demand letter, but no money has been refunded. I have filed a complaint with the Contractors State License Board and a Small Claims suit.
Incidentally, I later obtained an estimate from another contractor for the same work that Quality Remodeling & Design proposed to do for $61,000. This contractor’s estimate was $31,000, which included his profit margin. Compared to $61,000, that would be more than $30,000 in profit for Quality Remodeling. Also, the remodeling for the small bathroom could have been done for $3,600 as compared to $5,094. The lesson learned here is to always get at least three estimates before signing a contract. Also, by law, a construction contract must include a cancellation clause. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about canceling the contract if you don’t feel comfortable with it. If you are a senior or have elderly relatives, I suggest that you avoid this company. I’m not the only one who has had a bad experience. Check out the reviews on Yelp.com and Buildzoom.com. This company is definitely NOT recommended. -

If we could give them 6 stars we would!!!
Everyone within the company that we had contact with was nice and helpful. The Salesman (Shawnl) that came to our house to sell us the windows and show us our options was patient, and nice, he explained the different styles and was able to put it in terms that we could understand. He was also thorough when answering our questions and concerns.
After the initial sales man came to our house and we decided we were going to order windows another man came out to measure and place the actual order. The following day when the installation guys came back we let them know that those windows were not what we wanted. Without any question they said no problem, they didn't finish those three windows and instead ordered the correct ones. They finished the rest of the job that day and came back once the new windows were delivered and then installed them.
Amir and Josh were the guys that installed our windows. They were friendly, punctual and tidy. They did a great job and delivered excellent quality work. All of the windows look amazing and everything was clean there was such attention to detail. You can definitely tell these guys knew what they were doing. Inside and out the windows look beautiful.

Oh MY Gosh, we had the same experience as JMB - What a rude and nasty representative. This whole thing has really upset my 85 yr. old mother. They also claimed to be a local company, but we are 2 hrs. away from Canoga Park!

This company has no respect for the Do-Not-Call list (which I'm on). I was called during dinner time, the guy gave me usual spiel about being a "local" company doing great work. When I asked him if he was aware of Federal Trade Commission rules on phone soliciting, he became quite aggressive, told me they had a "first amendment" right to call me (they don't!) and then hung up. Callling *69 to call back their number never got me anywhere.
If a company is that sleazy to begin with, I would never trust them for anything else either. -

I have never encountered such a rude and blatantly aggressive company in my life. My ageing mother needed some house repairs so responded to a telemarketers call she set up an appointment with a “local“ company, or so the caller claimed. They are not, but rather from Canoga Park. After a 5 minute ground level inspection of second story roof beams to be repaired, their representative was ready to make a bid. He had no ladder, and made no attempt to examine the area. He scribbled a few notes to submit as a bid, when I requested a standard bid sheet, of materials and work hours etc., he became highly agitated and quite assertive about doing projects others than we wanted, using their own financing of course. When I asked him to leave he really lost his temper, literally screaming profanities and insults and even adolescent name calling… All in front of my 87 year old mother my disabled sister and their neighbors. (Please note that I keep my cool all during his outrageous outburst, and at NO time did I raise my voice nor lower myself to using such crude and abrasive language.)
His manager was even worse; he actually called me up to swear at me, calling me all sorts of disgusting names. I see very little future for such an unprofessional and verbally abusive company. I am lodging a complaint with the BBB and have alerted several local family and senior protection agencies.
I feel that this company preys on the elderly and seniors should stay away from these hotheaded folks. I am truly glad that I was there to protect my mother from theses charlatans. -

My web research says that they don't have an office or physical presence anywhere.
They do telemarketing / annoyance calls wthout regard for the Do Not Call list.
I think that this is a scam.

I think this company is a scam. Instead of sending a licenced contractor to our home, they sent a sales person who wanted thousands of $$$$ up front before even starting the job! Red Flags every where!
