Nicholas Carpenter
Owner
Nicholas Carpenter is a conman. He came across very charming and even told us he was a former police officer for 12 years and brought his child along to gain our trust. We invited him into our family. We sustained significant water damage at our home. As new homeowners we really didn’t know how to navigate through the insurance. He told us if we pulled permits then our house would be condemned by the city inspector. We put our entire life savings into our home, our first home we ever purchased to get our child on the Autism Spectrum into a good quality school district. He clearly did not know what he was doing. He demolished our bathrooms and basement- destroyed our house. He always came late if he ever showed up and said he had to get tools from another location. We kept giving him the benefit of the doubt. I am disabled and my husband and I both have compromised immune systems. The only time he would show was to get more money. He told us that insurance companies don’t send money to the insureds because of fraud so he directed all the insurance proceeds to go directly to him. He kept asking for more money. He cashed a check made payable to my husband, myself and him without our knowledge. He got $25,000 out of us. When we were out of town to see the oldest graduate from college he demolished our second bathroom against our expressed instructions forcing us to live in a hotel for 4 months while he said he was fixing our house. He made excuse after excuse left our house without a bathroom, left the basement and crawl space exposed to mold and a hole through the roof. Afterwards, we were very suspicious and a building inspector came in to assess his work and told us that they would have never condemned our house and Nick caused many alarming problems with our house including faulty plumbing that left even more water leaks. He destroyed our home. My husband had so much anxiety. He lost his job of 9 years. We pleaded with Nick to fix our house. He never came back. Then he demanded we sign a new contract and give him another $15,000 for what he told the insurance was for flooring but told us it was for plumbing. He fabricated invoices and sent to our insurance company and he never purchased any materials. When I sent receipts for everything that my husband and I purchased which was in the tune of $9,000 to recoup recoverable depreciation and they said they already paid it out to Nick. We couldn’t believe it. How could he get an additional $2500 for not purchasing anything or showing proof of receipts. The final straw was that he stole my husbands iPhone that had all our banking information and credit card information on his phone. We filed a police report. He sold the phone and for a while we were able to track the phone but then the new person changed the Apple ID and we couldn’t track it anymore so now we are victims of identity theft as well. With all of this he also conned my 67 year old veteran brother with his house which is unlivable. Nick stole my brother’s identity and opened a business AMEX card in my brother’s name with Nick as an authorized user and charged $30,000 on this card for trips to New York, gymnastics lessons for his daughter and lease payments on his truck. Nick got $55,000 plus out of my brother. My brother had to go back to work full time to deal with all the expenses he caused. My brother bought his house a year and a half ago and has not spent one night in his home because Nick destroyed and never came back. This person deserves to be put in jail. Please do not give any business to this conman. I have completely lost faith in contractors. Who would do this to a struggling family? I hope this review stops anyone else from being taken advantage of.
