In October 2017 Raymond Hayes took a large deposit from me to be the contractor for the construction of two steel buildings. After the "handshake" I asked him for a receipt and a contract - he never gave me either despite my repeated requests. In April 2018, two building kits were delivered and I paid "the balance" to the building supplier. In the following months I called Mr. Hayes weekly. He filed the permit application for the first building after many delays, saying he couldn't find anyone to do the required drawings; I found someone to do them and then Ray told them to see me about getting paid. For the second building he had everything he needed but when he delayed filing the permit application for 3 weeks I told him to give me the paperwork and I would do it. When insulation was shipped to my house, the told me to "send it back to the dock" because "these people always do this to me and I don't have a way to unload it". When I was informed by the shipping company that I would pay shipping for "delivery" as well as "return" I insisted that Mr. Hayes act like the contractor and find a way to unload it. He did. In August he said he would be out with the excavator - he told me this for weeks and when he told me the guy had fallen off his tractor and he didn't know when he'd be able to work, I insisted that he find someone else or the concrete wouldn't get done before winter. I was still requesting an accounting of expenses. It was the middle of September when he told me he wasn't able to find anyone to work for him that I said I would take legal action if I didn't see an accounting or some action at the building site. I have not heard from him since.
