    Build New Garage
    $38,000

    My experience with LVZ Construction was far from stellar.

    I hired LVZ to build a 22'x22' detached garage. What they told me would be a ___month project ended up taking 2 years and 2 months to complete! The job was terribly mismanaged, with many setbacks and construction defects.

    What was to be a simple garage project ended up involving 4 different project managers. Due to the constant rotation of project managers, their communication with me throughout was almost nonexistent. I would often receive either a very delayed response to my questions, or no response at all.

    A major construction problem occurred after the workers poured a new concrete slab for the garage. A substitute worker raised the concrete slab so far from its original height that I wasn't able to pull my car onto the slab because the incline was too steep. As a result, they had to completely tear it out and re-pour a new slab at the correct height. The company then attempted to charge ME for the mistake. In addition to this issue, LVZ ordered and installed the wrong trusses, ordered the wrong windows, and lastly there turned out to be a leak in the new concrete slab.

    On a positive note, the last project manager who stepped in to finish the job did indeed complete the project, corrected the outstanding issues, and apologized. I appreciated that. But in the end, a project that should have been quite straight forward ended up causing me a great amount of stress and requiring my constant vigilance. So the next time I hire a construction company, I will make sure I thoroughly research and vet them, and I have no doubt that company will not be LVZ.

    Beware- what was promised was not delivered- many issues with quality, timing, cleanliness, professionalism, ability to complete project on time....many many examples of issues in logistics and execution leading to extreme business interruptions.... ie they didn't order enough carpet and left an exam room half carpeted for weeks leaving it unusable, during carpeting install damaged office doors and door trim that were later corrected by our landlord's vendor who commented that in the future we should hire professionals (assumed we hired a unprofessional handyman)...told us they would use HEPA filtration and they never did, instead left incredible amounts of construction dust, debris and equipment throughout our space (including an industrial cement mixer at one point in a patient care area...sink installed by a novice- drain so crooked it leaked from the day of install leading to that exam room being down while they attempted to correct the original install twice and ultimately had to order a new sink to cover all the damage/reworked plumbing beneath a cabinet. . Lots of turnover within the company and employees openly gossiped heavily about issues between the two management/owners. Hired a project manager who let it slip that the person scheduled to do our front desk install might be too drunk that day and she would need to go knock on his door...front desk was unusable/not to ADA standards, etc on original install and had to be redone in keeping with all the other work done...I have led many remodeling projects of significantly greater complexity throughout my career and never experienced this level of complete chaos and unprofessionalism. I would have simply hired random people off of Craigslist and had a better outcome, had I known the level of service they actually provide.
