DO NOT HIRE Remark Home Design.
We did a big job with Remark Home Design in August- December 2018. And we regret choosing this company over other quotes.
1. Brian was soft spoken and professional at the start. But then after he got the contract- things changed. Everything was his way.
2. They missed to install a HVAC system in the nursery. They put a register but nothing attached to it. I never checked as we never used that room back then (we were not parents then). 12 months fast forward- We moved our daughter in and realizes there is no AC/Heater.
I spoke to Brian about it. As the warranty was expired by 3 months - He refused to do the work. - Did not answer my calls as matured professional.
3. He and His guys used our bathroom when there was a portable bathroom specially for the job (we have cameras). His people also opened cabinets in the house when we were not present.
4. Work is also not to our expectations- Fans and lights are installed unsymmetrical etc...I highly recommend hiring against this contractor.
Response from Remark Home Designs LLC August 26, 2020I give all my clients (as per State law), 12 months of warranty work on anything my company touches. The duct work/floor vent in question was NEVER worked on and existing, thus not covered under any warranties. 3 months AFTER the warranty expired, the client basically demanded we add additional ducting to an existing area, claiming we "must have missed it". No, we did not miss anything as ALL my company's permitted work passed. I did answer the client's calls/texts (3x) and explained to him that I was not covering additional work as that is not covered and is existing (nowhere near the new addition). He explained him and his wife having a baby (congrats again...) side-tracked him some. I understood, but again explained that is was additional work and my HVAC guy quoted him to add more duct work as asked. He refused to pay the full amount and asked if I would cover half...again I stated I would not and it would be additional. If he wanted something more, he would have to pay it himself. As for using the bathroom, we asked first as it was just me and my right-hand man Keith. The client also neglects to say it was Winter (Polar Vortex 2018-2019) and the waters inside the Porta were frozen solid and did not want to keep tracking snow in and out. ALL my subs used the Porta up until it was purely finishes...which I personally do (tile, trim, paint, etc.). I also cleaned it daily (floor to toilet to sink). The cabinet issue was address immediately (the next morning) as the two individuals were fired, never to return. My client also neglected to speak of his existing plumbing that caused pipes to burst over his living room (which was 20 feet from OUR work), Not only did my company repair his ceiling, paint it 3x times, clean his floors (daily), and place every bit of furniture BACK in its place (daily) so him and his wife had NO interruptions in their daily routine..but didn't charge him one dime for it....they saw it all on camera as they told me. As for the fans and lights, every single client does a walk-through with me PRIOR to insulation & drywall and they can see every exposed can, outlet, and switch box and make any changes then...free of charge. I stand by all my work, always have for 18 years. But I will not have someone demand I do extra work that they think I "missed"when everything passed the City of Royal Oak Building Department that my company touched, changed, or worked on. -

The actual job is scheduled to start in June, however, Brian Kramer was wonderful during the quote/bid/design phase. He is a licensed architect and he worked with me to design a bathroom and additional living space just the way I wanted it. He stayed under my budget. He is knowledgeable, personable, and he listens.

Brian Kramer of Remark Home Designs has designed a home for us. He followed our instructions and gave us good ideas we wouldn't have thought of. We plan to use him as our builder as well.

I highly recommend Remark Home Designs for your project. I worked with this company for a two-story addition which included a master bath on the second floor and additional living space on the first floor. Brian drew the architectural designs and then his company executed the project.
Brian and his assistant, Keith, made the project absolutely painless for me. I never once had to ask that something be fixed, or altered, or addressed, because they noticed and took care of it first. For example, Brian noticed that the brick skirting around the outside of the addition was too low. He immediately had his crew remove siding so the brick could be extended. He did not like the way the trim was installed around the windows...he had his crew do them over.
Brian pays very close attention to detail - he takes pride in his work and his reputation.
I also appreciated the way he respected my opinions and viewpoints. He would always consult me on the challenges and the progress of the project. I have an old home - built in '42 - and there were things that caused plans to be altered. Those things could not be foreseen until walls were opened up. Brian would explain what was going on, he would give me options, he would listen to my views, and then we would reach a decision.
If you want a contractor that delivers good, quality, service; respects your opinion as well as your property; and provides you with a project beautifully executed, then you don't need to look any further than Remark Home Designs.
