Remodel Washington DC

I have renovated three other houses in DC - one was an entire gut renovation, which included a separate basement unit that was built to code… and I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, uncommunicative, disorganized group of contractors in my life. I debated whether or not to post this review because we are not even close to being done, but I am so desperate to get them to respond to me or to do what they’ve promised, that I’ve come to a public review space with the hopes of compelling action, as well as to serve as a warning to everyone in the area. Where to begin? Alex is the owner. He came to our home back in Feb/March. We had good rapport. I was optimistic. Their prices are good. We already had a separate architect do our drawings. We just needed permits. Once those were ready… the team at Remodel was not. Our house sat without anyone working on it for 3 solid weeks. And then once there were workers here, it was one or max two people with no project manager. No foreman. Just random people they’ve likely subcontracted out in our home. Red flag. While we were technically assigned a PM (Randy) to manage the project, he was NOWHERE to be found. Ever. I met him once upon signing of the contract and then a cumulative total of 4 times between May and when he was taken off my project in August. What transpired between May and August? In terms of progress? Demo - yes. All the required rough ins were eventually done. But it took 4 months for that to take place. Why? They never had a crew ready to come in. Where is the plumber? I don’t know - maybe he will come tomorrow? The electrician? He had a family emergency. Okay, is there someone else? Not sure. THESE are the answers we were given. The crew that has been here to build the interior of our home… has legit changed over 4+ times. I have no idea who these people are. I send emails and texts asking questions - I get NO ANSWERS. No one thinks I should know what is going on in my own house. Yes, there have been change orders. Nothing that changes the structure of the house; these are detail oriented changes. These kinds of changes should not adversely impact the timeline or work. Due to an overall lack of communication between the workers and what we’ve communicated to Alex or Randy, they have had to redo things. A lot of things. So much wasted time. I have never seen a consistent lack of people just SHOWING UP TO DO THE WORK, a lack of communication from the owners (Lana and Alex), and a complete lack of project management or even just regular ol’ oversight. We have had “official” meetings and talked all of this out. Ohhh Randy just didn’t know this and that. We promise we will have four guys there at all times, as well as a PM. (There is ONE worker here now.) The new guy they put on our project was here for a month… now Alex would be managing it. I have sent texts and emails and have made calls. Alex has not responded. There is zero regard for the state of my house. They leave trash everywhere. My entire backyard had grass, where now there is none. I have three small kids; they don’t give a crap. There are wood chips, random nails and screws, tools, trash — all left out everywhere. Inside and outside of my house. They leave the side gates open; I have a dog. She has gotten out twice. I have asked them to please shut the gates, otherwise come and go as you please… to no avail. There is about a half inch of water sitting in my master bedroom because they did not install an exterior door correctly. Still just sitting there. They broke one of our dressers. They got construction debris on my business clothes. They’ve broken some of our dishes. No one cares! It is really unbelievable. It will be October in 5 days. We have no kitchen. No master bath. No enclosed back porch. None of the rooms listed in the scope is fully finished. The house is in shambles with stuff littered everywhere. In conclusion, at this stage of my renovation, I urge you to take your business elsewhere. I wish I had.
