Tom Quatman and his son Aaron painted the interior in my house in LA Crescenta. They did an exceptional job in my home. They completed it on time and both were very friendly...Tom was a little pricey compared to the other bids I got,but their work was very professional and i would recommend them to anyone who need their house painted!!

    Paint

I was referred to Tomas Quatman of Renaissance Painting thru Home Depot's Pro's, so I thought he was a legitimate business owner. When I first contacted him he wanted me to pay for Beir Paint, up front. I didn't want to use this product having had a bad experience with it previously, and I didn't want to pay for paint up front, I thought that was weird.

I needed to hold up the project several months while I got new baseboards installed. In the meantime, he did contact me and ask me if I just wanted to get a few rooms done. After I got my new baseboards installed, I contacted Tom to do 2 small rooms, a closet, and a short hall. I explained that there was some color correction needed along the ceiling line. I asked him to use a coat of Primer to cover the dark paint, and then Paint that I provide, and even though it is 1 coat paint, It may take 2 coats of paint. He gave me a quote and we set up the job.

Upon arrival, I went over the issue with the color correction, and one ceiling would also need painting, so he gave me an additional price for the one ceiling, that I agreed to. He then told me to do the baseboards it would be an additional $200, because he thought he was only painting the walls. I was shocked over that, since he new I had just had the new baseboards installed. So I told him just to do the walls, and the one ceiling. He did the ceiling but complained about the Ceiling Paint. He was disturbed that I wanted the closet painted.

Tom did NOT use the TAPE provided. He did NOT use the Painters Paper I provided to cover the floor. He used a well worn drop cloth. He did NOT use the Primer we initially discussed would be necessary. He then proceeded to use paint only, and kept complaining throughout the entire job that ONE COAT OF PAINT didn't cover! He didn't do the Color Correction with Primer along the Ceilings that we discussed numerous times. The second day I asked him when he was going to do the Correction and he said he didn't intend to do it! I told him that I needed it done, and that I couldn't do it myself that's why I called in a professional! He begrudgingly agreed to do it.

Towards the end of the job, he asked me if I had the $700 total in Cash because he didn't want to go to the bank and wait in line? I told him I had part of the sum in cash. I asked him for the Invoice that he said he would bring along with everything itemized. He then asked "why do I need it"? I explained I needed it for my Taxes. He said he "forgot" and asked for a piece of paper to write a receipt out on. I told him that wouldn't be sufficient, that my bookkeeper wouldn't accept a scrawled out had written receipt. He said he'd bring one by "later".

He seemed rushed to get done, and gave me all the switch plates to clean. I cleaned them and had them ready for him to put back.

He then proceeded to leave. I did pay him with a check as well as cash, and thought he was going to come back to clean everything up but he just left.

Now that the paint is dry and I've inspected the job, there are bare spots on the walls that will need to be gone over, drops of paint on my new, and existing floor, that I had to scrape off and wash, (that weren't properly covered), and Paint Inside my Electrical Outlets! It took me several hours to sort out and put back the switch plates, and I still have to do the baseboards myself.

The job was sloppy and not well done. Tom has an attitude and want's to nickel and dime you over every little thing. The $700 price for 2 small rooms, a closet, 1 ceiling, and a short hall, wasn't that good in the first place.

Get someone younger with a better attitude and a legitimate Invoice to give you.

BTW: I'm a retired Senior and Widow, with an extremely bad back, completing this job myself is a hardship.

A painter should be willing to do the job to completion and to the clients satisfaction.
