By Bob B.October 1, 2019Replace hvac system
Rfg Mechanical mainly does commercial work, but if you can get an appointment with them to come out to your house, book it! We had several companies come out and said we needed a new system or that it was unrepairable. RFGMechanical mechanic had it fixed in 20 minutes and it’s been working great for the last three years. An honest knowledgeable company that I would and do recommend to anyone who is in need of hvac repair. Thanks Sammy for the great job!

Worst experience I have ever had dealing with a contractor. Ricky, who’s supposed to be a friend of a family member, was a complete snake and treated very unfairly. I would never recommend him to anyone and would advise against his service.
Our air conditioner was freezing up so I gave Ricky a call and asked him if he could come take a look at it and give me a quote on how much it would cost to fix it. He said no problem. When he arrived I told again I needed a quote because our funds are running low. He told me not to worry about it that he was going to take care of me because he was a friend of the family. I then told him again, I need a quote before he does anything. I had to ask him 10xs I needed to know what it would cost before anything.
Now before he arrived at my house I took the cover off the unit inside and began cleaning up the coils or whatever you call it because they were filthy and that was the reason it was freezing up. I did this so that he would not have to and I would not get charged for cleaning fee. All I needed from him was to check and see if the unit was low on refrigerant. When he arrived I was in the middle of cleaning it so he said I had to finish cleaning it and close it back up to check and see if the system was low on refrigerant. This took me about 10-15minutes and I put it back together.
When I finished this I went outside and let him know it was back together and again told him that I needed to know what he was going to charge me before he did anything and again he told me he had to hook up the gauges to see if it was low on refrigerant and then he would be able to tell, which I totally understand.
He then hooks up the gauges and tells me it was 1lb low and it would cost me $270. I told him to hold off and let me call my wife because that seems very high to put 1lb of refrigerant in the unit. So I called her and we agreed that it sounded extremely high priced and we wanted to get a second quote.
So I tell Ricky this and then he tells me that regardless I owe him $180 for him coming out to look at it. He said that while I was inside cleaning the inside unit out he cleaned and serviced the outside unit, which was a lie. I called around and asked and to service the outside unit you take it apart and clean the coils. Ricky did not take anything apart, at most he sprayed the outside the unit with my hose, I took pic of what he supposed to have cleaned.
So I argued with him about this and how he was so shady towards me when I asked several times for a price before getting in to deep and all he kept telling me was to not worry about it he was going to take care of me being he’s supposed to be a friend of the family. He never once told me he was going to charge me $180 just to put the gauges on it and tell me if it was low on refrigerant or not when he knew I was really worried about the cost because I was low on money.
He also told me that he was giving me a deal and that was really cheap and no other ac company would have done what he did for any cheaper, which was another lie. I called 3 companies and asked what it cost for them to come out and clean and service my AC and got three prices 1. $99. 2. $100. 3. $125. I also explained to them what had happened after they gave me a price and they explained to me how they take the unit apart and thoroughly clean the coils. I then went and you tubed it and seen exactly what he was talking about, and Ricky definitely did not do that whatsoever.
So if you or anyone you know needs service done to you ac, be careful if Ricky comes out. He totally screwed me out of my money and is supposed to be a friend of the family when he’s just a snake in the grass.
