    Drywall
    $750
    4 days

Well last weekend was hell weekend. I tried to give a job to someone local and boy did I regret it. The framing went up and things were sort of ok if only I had decided to stop there and do the drywall myself. He required 1/2 down before he came to work which he picked up a check on February 8th.... The first day of drywall work was Feb 18th he comes in about 11:00am and works till 2pm. Then came back for another 3 hours on the 19th... He insisted he should be paid another $225 in cash when I said I rather pay by check he said well I won't be able to cash it till Tuesday, ??? I guess he thought he was going to be done on Sunday. That evening I took a look at what he had done.... Keep in mind he has $600 of the total job materials and labor of $750.

My text the following morning went something like this:

"I've taken a look at your work and you are going to have to pick up more drywall to redo one whole wall and another strip. It is not good. I think it is a two-man job and you probably should have waited til you could find someone to help you but before you proceed with the ceiling you are going to have to redo those 3 sections of work at the least."

Drywall guy: "Let me finish before you judge my work"

"Well I'm not going to be able to put a light plate on and top corner should have a strip of drywall all the way to the top not part of the way up with mud filler all over. Also another piece is a 1.5 inches off at the bottom and doesn't go all the way to the floor and the tape is bubbling. Good foundations make good painting. I require they be redone. Unfortunate but I know what I need for the next step. "

Well here is where I made my fatal error. When he came in that day I should have stuck to my guns and insisted he correct the problems before proceeding and when he wouldn't I should have said good-bye. My mistake next time cut them no slack.

He came in and said " I can't work this way". I said well you need to change those three things. And he said let me finish before you judge my work. Well I gave him a chance to make it right, big mistake.

During the day he told me to get out when I came down mid-afternoon. He had the door barred when I tried to get into the laundry room. At this point I just want him out of my house but I also don't want to have someone threatening me or my mother while they are in my house.

So after he goes and I see what he has done I am just flabbergasted that he can get any work at all it was so bad. First instead of laying the ceiling on the studs he put one big piece up and pasted a small strip up next to it plastering it together. He covered up the heating vent in the ceiling and pasted another piece around the fan. The ceiling didn't join any of the walls not even close, big gaps of an 1" or more. The piece of board above the door was disjoined. And then there is the impastoed goop everywhere with giant mountains and grooves...

So anyway the following morning he calls and says " I need more money to buy more supplies" a whole other thing these supplies (another story) I tell him we are at the limit for job, you said $650 for labor and $100 for supplies which at the point of this phone call I have had it when he starts saying he didn't get paid any $225... I said I'll put your stuff out and pay you for the remainder and lets call it a day which is a polite way of saying your fired. So once again the PG county curse of paying someone to do a job that I ending up fixing and doing it myself.

Today I scraped all the walls the floors and the wacky doodle corner out. I cleaned out the room and took down two parts of the ceiling in the direction of the studs. I repaired the corner using drywall and the metal patches in 15 minutes. I took out most of the goop everywhere down to the boards.

I picked up two pieces of drywall cut to the measurements I wanted. Measure where the cutouts should be for the fan exhaust and the heating vent and then put them up tape and mud them. It has now been a week of sanding patching repairing and priming and I'm finally ready to paint a place I should have been last Tuesday. What an absolute nightmare and how can anyone say they know how to do something when they have no idea.

    Garage repair and paint
    $4,950
    3 days

Rick Goodman came to my house this past week. He has worked on my house for the past 5 years. My garage roof came in because of a leak in the ceiling and he repaired and painted the whole garage. He is great to work with and I would recommend calling him if you want someone you trust.

After everyday he cleaned up any mess, which is rare to find in some contractors. We highly recommend Richard Goodman Painting Company. I would love to attach pictures. We will use him every time from now on.
