My wife and I hired Mr. Sweeney for a landscape project and Sweeney requested 1/2 of the contract at signing (November 2023). The contract was signed (under $10 thousand) and paid him 1/2 the contract as a deposit that day. Mr. Sweeney met with us one time to discuss the project and has no more than two hours of work in the project at this time. His hourly wages he currently spent on meeting with us and showing us a few pictures are a fraction the initial deposit and he did not produce anything further.
The project is on hold due to permit issues which have been over a year. We talked in August and told him the status of the job but then he requested I pay the contract in full. I explained how he put less than 2 hours of work on the job and as soon as we get some permit issues cleared up, we will begin with the landscape.
Sweeney did not care and decided to then threaten and harass me with court, contacting the mother of my children. I received small claims court that will be appearing in the next month. In reading the request to the court, he asked the court to repossess a car worth hundreds of thousands. This is beyond strange and below is the text message from his phone to my childs mother and myself:
Justin,
Glad to see you decided to defend. I hope you come prepared. I know you're going to use the angle that I am getting info from Lauren. That's ok bring it all. I have a good counter reaction that is solely based on facts and numbers. Nothing emotional. See you there. Maybe wear one of those $12K suits you own.
I am not sure what is wrong with him but he told me in another text he does this to people often. I am not going to back down to a person who thought i would just write a check to have him go away.
What a strange message, strange situation, and I suggest to stay away from him. I never write a review but I will be defending a $5K bill as he said in court with a $12k suit on.
