I am out over $9000. He is a dishonest person. Don’t hire him. If you are desperate like we were make sure that you check for his license with the state website before you give him your money. You should also check the warning on Better Business Bureau website.
We hired him in April and he agreed to do the work. He asked for the 9000 in advance. He invoiced us twice and the second invoice stated that it needed to be paid before work was scheduled. Mr. Richards came over one time to schedule the work and said nothing about him not liking the date. He keeps complaining about waiting until summer. He never said that he couldn’t do it. Then we never saw him again for the next five months he rejected our phone calls, he blocked our texts. He even returned a certified letter. I never heard from him until after the Attorney General wrote him a letter, and only then passed the deadline. He did not respond to the attorney I hired. I have no doubt that he took our money never intending to do the work I will not stop making sure that others don’t get ripped off by him. I’m trying to understand how he is accusing me of scamming him. Ha ha.
Update: I was able to dispute the transaction and got half the amount back thanks to Discover. I am still working with B of A. I also got a different electrician and he did the job for less than half what Richards charged. Do not get ripped off by this guy. I was told by another contractor that he took another woman for $14,000.
To Mr. Richards- you still owe me more than $4500. I don’t think that anyone that reads your explanation is going to hire you. It is pretty easy to tell you are lying.
Update: Mr. Richards did not show in court today. I received a default judgement for the balance he owes me. According to my attorney, Mr. Richards keeps his assets in the names of his family members (a prominent family in Gallup) so he won't be paying me. I just want to make sure no one else gets scammed by him. 11/20/23
