I’m writing to communicate as precisely as possible my assessment of the recent work Mr. Randal Richardson and his crew performed at my home, 3407 Swamp Fox Trail, Garden City, SC 29576.
The project consisted of installing a metal roof on the house and shed, repairing a leak under the home, dry out the area, spray it for mold and mildew, and to reinforce the kitchen floor and install tile in 225 sq. ft area. On June 6, 2016, I signed the initial and only proposal provided by Mr. Richardson limited to the metal roof installation, for labor and materials totaling $6,400.00. I provided $4,000.00 cash down payment as per Mr. Richardson’s request.
First, it should be noted that I had several proposals and while he was not the lowest bidder, I only awarded the job to Mr. Richardson based on his promise to meet a definitive completion deadline of July 20th. From my experience, I found Mr. Richardson to be unprofessional in the manner that he and his crew performed the specified work.
1. A week or so into the project, Mr. Richardson went on a week’s vacation and assured me that his assistant would continue the project in his absence. His assistant never showed up and I called Mr. Richardson, he informed me that his assistant had had a heart attack and therefore, he Mr. Richardson would have to complete the job when he returns from vacation.
2. My Serius radio antenna was removed and never returned to its place, and is now missing as they discarded it along with other items including my latter which they used without my permission, and cigarette butts left scattered around my property.
3. There were days when Mr. Richardson and his crew were expected to work and no one showed up nor did anyone call me to let me know. A job that should have taken, according to Mr. Richardson, a week to complete, took over a month and was never completed.
4. The most egregious example of their negligence is the way that my dishwasher was disconnected from the water source to repair the floor and install new tile, and how it was reconnected improperly resulting in a serious water damage to the very floors they had just repaired and my newly installed tiles.
5. And for this I paid:
A. $6,400.00 for the metal roof labor and materials
B. $1,510.00 for repairing and replacing leaky pipes in the crawl space
putting one of my fans to dry the area for several weeks
NEVER COMPLETED as they never sprayed for mold and mildew.
C. $1,137.00 for repairing damaged floors and installing new tile
It should be noted that I paid for the materials as the labor was $800.00
D. $9,047.00 TOTAL This amount includes $223.00 that Mr. Richardson
charged me because he used his Lowes card to purchase a second set of tiles that we never used and I returned to Lowes and his card was credited that amount when I returned the tiles. And doesn’t include the over $500.00 I paid for the tile that was installed.
6. In my estimation, this is a clear indication of unethical behavior, on Mr. Richardson’s part.
7. So the end result is that I paid for my crawlspace to be sprayed for mildew and mold that was never done. I paid $223.00 for tiles that were never installed and were returned but still charged to me. And now I need to hire a new contractor to fix the damaged floor and tiles caused by Mr. Richardson’s improper handling of my dishwasher connections.
Please take note that I live in a retirement community consisting of over 900 neighbors. Unless these egregious conditions are rectified immediately, I will make copies of this letter and place one in each mailbox and share it with every contractor that works at Jensen’s.
