Richie Rich Electric installed a 50amp electrical socket for my EV charger in my garage, running wiring up from the panel through my attic and into my garage. The installation and communication were good, and initially the socket worked very well.
10 months later I receive warnings from my EV about charging being stopped due to an overheating socket. I called another electrician to survey and diagnose, and he discovered that the wrong gauge of wire (a cheaper, thinner Aluminum wire) had been used to connect the outlet, and was not the proper gauge and resistance for the 50 amp breaker. My choices were to either reduce the amperage of the breaker or redo the entire wiring project. This would not have happened if the proper wire had been used the first time - and I would have preferred to receive a more expensive quote with proper materials included from Richie Rich Electric when I first contacted them. Needing to have the work redone a year later is NOT saving anyone any money!
TL;DR: Good contractors, friendly service, subpar materials that needed replacing within a year. Be thorough about what materials they’re using for a new install!
