Everything about working with Rob Estes and his crew was a nightmare. The project (building an addition) began in July 2011 and was still not even completed when we fired Rob in January 2012 after months of delays. He and his crew would disappear for days at a time, abandoning the job site in various states of construction and never communicated anything to us. The job went thousands of dollars over budget and months past deadline. On top of that, the workmanship was shoddy and the crew was clearly inexperienced and had no guidance from Rob whatsoever. As Rob was almost never on-site, we often had to instruct the crew on what to do, but of course we couldn't be there every day to supervise. That should be the job of the general contractor.
A couple of weeks after ending the job in January 2012, we came home to find our basement flooded with sewage. The plumbing for the new bathroom had been done incorrectly, and a testing balloon had been left inside one of the pipes by Rob's plumber. Waste had been backing up behind this test balloon, the pipes eventually gave way, and our basement flooded with 6 inches of sewage.
We made several phone calls to Rob Estes Construction to alert them to the problem and hold them accountable, and to this day have never heard a word back. Our homeowners insurance company is seeking compensation from the company for damages to our property. I'm confident that no one will ever be able to get answers from these people.
Since hiring a new contractor (who is wonderful!), we've had to fix a myriad of mistakes that Rob Estes' crew made to our addition. We've had to pay over and over again in both time and money for these issues to be fixed, but at least we're confident that things are being done correctly this time around.
Please DO NOT make the mistake that we did and stay far, far away from this shady, dishonest, lazy contractor and his crew. They are truly despicable, and I don't know how they can sleep at night.
