Justin B. Roth
Roth has a good reputation in the Lakes Area, unfortunately we did not experience the level of service you would expect from a company with such a reputation. We were quoted by a sales person of Roth, not the owner himself and that may be where the breakdown occurred. The quoting process went rather well. We were quoting in end of June and expressed our concerns about getting the work completed before Fall as we knew that shingles need adequate time to cure to the tar paper via sunlight. We also asked to have missing chimney bricks replaced, soffit fascia replaced and primed for painting next year and gutters replaced. When we signed the estimate mid-July we were told we would be on the schedule some time around end of August/beginning of September. We sent half of our payment to the company as instructed. We didn't hear from our sales person and in the first week in September I sent an email asking when we might be on the schedule. I was told they were shooting for September 18th. That time frame came and went and after more contact and a stern call from my husband, we finally had our shingles and chimney repairs done on October 14th a full 6 weeks after our original estimated date. Worse yet. I had to go purchase the bricks for our chimney repair because the sales person "wouldn't even know where to buy them". The shingle work was acceptable, as of now it appears that all shingles are secured. The chimney looked as though it had been done by a first timer, there is so much mortar on the bricks that were replaced that you can't even tell that I went through effort to match the colors of the bricks.
The soffit fascia work was not completed for another 2 weeks after the shingles were done. Instead of priming the wood like we had asked, it was wrapped in a white metal (inconvenient since we are planning to repaint our trim to another color next spring). It was another 3 weeks after that before the gutters were put on. We had contacted our sales person and asked him to have the gutter guy do brown gutters instead of the white we had previously had, low and behold the gutter guy installs white gutters.
Then we receive a call from the sales person, we had some questions about the method used to secure some of the shingles and whether or not the size of the gutters was sufficient to handle the level of rainfall that could come from our steep roof. He answered our questions and I was satisfied. Then I asked if we were on budget. He proceeded to tell me that the metal cover he had put on the fascia was going to cost me an extra $276. That's right, the fascia that we had asked to be primed so we could paint it the color that we wanted and instead he made an executive decision without contacting us to spend more money on this fascia treatment. As soon as I questioned why I should be expected to pay for more for something that I didn't ask for and in fact asked for the opposite, he became unprofessional, rude and argumentative. He accused me of not wanting to pay for the job at all at which time I expressed that I simply wanted to pay the cost I was quoted (which was a hefty amount) given that the additional cost was not something I had asked for and given the multitude of issues that we had with this project I thought it was only fair that I be charged what I was told I would be to begin with.
The sales person never contacted us to do a final walk around with him and after our conversation I don't anticipate that he ever will. I don't even know at this point if I should expect that any warranty that was expressed prior to our final conversation would be honored. I would never hire Roth Roofing again
