Russ Construction & Remodeling

We recently purchased a mid-century house in SW Portland after having moved back from living abroad. Although the house had recently been renovated we wanted to open up the kitchen as well as combine the small master and guest room into a single master suite. During the home inspection it was discovered all the previous renovations had been horribly done out of code with some areas being outright dangerous (i.e. no GFCI in the jetted tub). As we looked for a general contractor to do the new renovations as well as specialists to fix the laundry list of previous issues we were fairly anxious to find quality folks.
My wife found Russ Construction on a new (to us) website called Angie's List and had them come out for a bid. My first impression of Vlad was that he was very professional and pleasant. I immediately felt that he knew what I was trying to do and was able to ask questions and provide feedback in a positive manner that didn't come across condescending as some of the other contractors we met did. He explained how he would do the work and options that we should think about. What I really appreciated was that although we discussed a variety of things throughout the initial meeting Vlad was able to sum up the conversation by walking us through every thing we plan to do in order to confirm that we were all on the same page. We received a bid outlining everything discussed the following day which felt like light speed compared to the other bids we waited on. After the initial meeting we agreed that we liked Russ Construction the most and were blown away the following day when their bid beat out all the others.

Throughout the project I would regularly stop by and check out the progress. What really built my confidence in Vlad and his team was that he would always walk me through what they were about to do as well as confirm key points that we had previously discussed. This was fantastic as my wife and I did modify some of our decisions throughout the project so Vlad's confirmation ensured we were always in sync. Whenever they came across unexpected issues they would immediately notify us and provide their assessment as well as proposed solutions. We felt reassured that things were getting done correctly and that shortcuts were not being made. Throughout the project Vlad continued to be positive, upbeat, and a problem solver. Some of the other specialists we brought in continued to only point out issues which required us to tease out of them various options and associated costs to address...if I knew electrical and plumbing I wouldn't have to hire professionals!

Vlad and his team completed the project on time and without any surprise costs. We now have a beautiful open kitchen as well as master suite that we've been enjoying for the last three weeks. We were so impressed with Vlad and team's work that we plan to have them remodel our downstairs bathroom this spring. We HIGHLY recommend Russ Construction! Thanks to Vlad and his team we're now enjoying our new home!

Russ Construction was highly recommended by a friend who had had two bathroom remodeled by them. The day after my initial call, Vlad and a co-worker came to my home to prepare an estimate for remodeling my two bathrooms. During their evaluation, they made a number of creative suggestions, including tearing out a partial wall which greatly enhanced the master bathroom. The next day Vlad brought an estimate by and we agreed to start the work 2 working days later. Vlad and partner arrived promptly Monday morning and by the end of the week the 1st bathroom was gutted and minor dry rot repared. They were later to find more dry rot but most of it prior to estimating the cost of work to be done in that room. They refused to put new flooring over the rotted areas: NO PATCHING was done at any time during the remodel. The bathrooms were beautifully done and so I asked about putting in hardwood floors. I got that estimate that afternoon and the work started simultaneously with finishing of the bathrooms. Eventually I decided to replace the kitchen cabinets and counters and all doors throughout and to refinsh the living room ceiling (old water damage). During the entire project, I was kept informed of what was going on and everyone brought in to work was very pleasant and cordial to work with. I ended up having my whole1200 sq. ft. condo remodeled and during the entire project, the team supported my needs with moving furniture and removing all debris. Everything was cleaned up daily and at the end of the project including the garage and deck that were used by the construction team."
