After going to Home Depot to purchase a GE cooktop, I was told that I needed to pay $69 to have them send an installer out to measure the space, even though I had the owner's manual with the exact dimensions of my current GE cooktop that I was trying to replace in kind. The RWB installer arrived and told me that my space was 'too small' by 1/8", and I would need to pay them $ 150 to shave the granite to house the new cooktop. This was in spite of GE having a guarantee that if you replace in kind, there is no charge if the new cooktop does not fit. After arguing with the installer, re: his measurements and mine (we were both looking at the same tape measure), he told me that I would need to pay Home Depot the extra charge ($ 150), and if the cooktop fit, I would need to go back to Home Depot and be re-imbursed. I then opted to go to Best Buy, and bought the same cooktop and had it installed with no problem.....it fit perfectly. It appeared that RWB was trying to scam me out of additional money, and is a poor reflection of Home Depot requiring me to use them. Also, RWB did not mention anything about the GE guarantee of no charge for replacing in kind....nor did Home Depot. At the end of the day, I'm out $69 to RWB and have been left with a bad taste of the business practice that Home Depot deployed in requiring me to use them for a measurement that wasn't needed.
