    New patio

    Gabe at Sam the Concrete Man has a great team with Larry and his crew. They are hard workers managing a few jobs at a time. They started earlier than expected and cleaned up daily. The weather worried us but they assured us the concrete has accelerate mix too. They also focused on getting the job done to the point our pets didn’t even realize we had strangers in the back yard so it didn’t cause any stress on them like we’ve experienced with other projects. Gabe is fair and his employees seem happy.

    Concrete work

    WORK DONE: Garage floor, driveway + apron, sections of sidewalk.

    PROS:
    - Started my job sooner than expected
    - Competitive bid
    - Offered “anniversary” discount
    - Initial work was done in a timely manor despite weather and having the city remove a tree.
    - Final driveway finish looks generally good

    CONS:
    - Had to get my own permit
    - Around 10 large 1-5” pits/holes appeared in the surface within 2-4 days of the pour.
    —- They did eventually patch these after multiple contacts.
    - Daily & final clean-up were not great.
    —- Large area of concrete mix was left in the yard & killed grass.
    - Communication was lacking.
    —- I typically had to initiate communication when I found something questionable.
    - Contract stated fill dirt would be used to fill in areas around the work, I had to remind that this needed to be done.
    - Caution barriers were a bit shotty - I had to keep putting the caution tape back in place.

    NOTES:
    - My neighbor had their driveway done at the same time by Bill Lewis concrete. Their work is practically flawless which, unfortunately I suppose, gave me a high bar to compare my project against.
    - The neighbors crew were clean & professional. Sam’s crew worked quickly but were not as professional.

    CONCERNS:
    - I am concerned that the holes/pitting will result in issues after the Winter
    - The finish in the garage appears to have a lot of rippling (like the float skipped), concerned the finish may become dusty and start to come off.

    I will post an update in 6 months if any issues arise.

    put in new concrete driveway and patio
    $14,000

    Horrible experience. Low bid, then hit with extras. Oh and they didn't even bother to get a permit, so project was shut down while I had to get and pay for permitting with County and Township, not to mention HOA Board which was not notified, "those things are not our job" they said. Okay, thanks for nothing.
