Savage Roofing began an adjusting/ repair project with my husband in June of 2020. Through their adjuster Will, my homeowners insurance agreed to finance the roofing, siding repairs. Following the approval, we heard nothing from the company until November, 2020 (the month my spouse passed away.) We agreed to shelf the project until Spring to allow me time to grieve and gain administration over the home which was in my husband’s name due to a refinance for business expenses. I did not receive administrative title until Feb 22 due to Covid, but I called Savage who sent another adjuster, and the insurance agreed to a 3 month extension past the 2 year deadline. I decided on a roof, siding, and gutters early in May, with a job quote of approximately 25,000. When work began, the roofer came to me with a statement for decking replacement totaling $100 dollars per sheet of plywood, total 7500.00. I agreed to its replacement, not having any time to research appropriate decking costs. They finished the roof in a bit over 10 hours, and the job was done well. This was the beginning of all problems. They had not covered any area of the attic, nor tested the attic fans. Consequently, my attic is covered in splintered wood (a total fire/pest hazard) and I had to hammer out some dents in one of the “new” attic fans to prevent a severe scraping noise.
Within a few days, my adjuster only appeared at my home with another member of the company and refused any conversation on the phone. The man who first appeared with her, Diego, used fear tactics and high pressure to convince me if I did not agree to an additional cost of 6300 to finish the siding job, I could possibly be held responsible for the balance remaining for the roof that the insurance might not pay (about 3500.) I was distraught at the moment, calling my father to see how I could protect the unfinished boards hoping to cancel the remaining work. He had no answer, but recognized I was not okay. He called back within a moment, asked for an explanation, and decided to bring a check the following morning for 13000 to cover the decking and the new charges. The Savage reps left happy, only stopping on my porch to state I needed to choose a different siding, stating my choice was 3 weeks out, which would exceed the deadline. Later, my insurance adjuster informed me that exceptions are made for unexpected delays once a job has commenced. They came the following week to install the siding, spending 4.5 hours as nearly the entire front of my home is brick. The last straw came when once again, Diego and Katie showed up to convince me the 60 year old fascia boards did not need replacement, but they would replace the portion they had not already covered. The fascia boards replacement was the only specific I demanded. I was weary, verbally agreed, then called the next day to tell them to deliver the remainder of my materials, stating “this would complete our association.” I could not contact Katie for the next month. Neither did she return my calls. She did; however, contact me the day my insurance adjuster let me know the check was on its way. I did not return her call until the check arrived, at which point she told me Daniel Maldonado had agreed to deliver the remaining gutters and have them bent for installation. They delivered them, and they remain in my back yard to this day. The mess in the attic was never addressed, neither the fan, neither the front aluminum joining between the vinyl siding and brick. To finish explaining my review, the company has since sent two certified letters with intent to file a lien. The Accounts Receivables associate emailed me the invoice (never completed until July, 22,) ensuring me there I owe nothing else. Pardon me if I cannot believe anything they say. There remains a balance of 1700+ dollars that the insurance has not paid on the balance. I have given the company 1star for a completely shady in professional job. They have perfected the art of incompletion, double speak, and cons and give honest contractors and construction bad reputations.
