Permits
- Building permit records show that Schumacher Homes of South Carolina, inc has worked on 173 permitted projects.
We did our research and thought Schumacher Homes in Spartanburg would be the best company to build our new forever home, we were mistaken. From the beginning the design process was rushed, we were not shown or told about any options and felt like we needed to hurry and finish the meeting so we could sign the paper work to get started. The selection process was nice and we had a great time selecting our different colors and tiles only to be told later that the selections we had made could not bought any more. After 3 selection tries we finally got the okay for our selection that we never got to see until it was installed but the list of available selections was very limited. When we were ready to break ground I thought the nightmare portion of the build was behind us, I was sorely mistaken. When the build started our original general contractor was fired by the company and we were "issued" a new GC. We met with the new GC and explained our concerns and our vision for our new house and he was very helpful and everything seemed to be looking up. One day during the framing process of our home work just stop. We received a call a day or two later letting us know that our second GC was no longer with the company and we would get a call later about who our new GC would be. When we got to met Matt we found out he had been working for the company for a while and was already the GC for a few builds already and our build was just added to his work load. During this time we had reached out to the manager at the Spartanburg location multiple times with no response. When we met Matt we learned that all the things we had spoken to our second GC about were not going to happen and that he had made promises that the company were just not going to keep. Again, we reached out to the manager without any response. We were lucky to be able to stop by and check in on our home as it was being built and caught many things early so they wouldn't be issues later. To be honest Matt tried but he had so many other projects going on he couldn't keep up with the worker that were building our home. Fast forward to now, we have been in our new home about 3 months and it is already having issues. The flooring has been patch or repaired 4 times due to the fact that it was not installed properly, two of the interior doors have fallen off the door jams because the screws were too short and the wood is busted behind the jam, the steps going into the house from the garage have already started to come loose and bend. The sliding glass door we had installed would not lock and the door handle fell off the back door leaving our kids locked out of the house. Doors not level, floor popping up, paint job was awful even after they "fixed" it three times. We were really hoping for a beautiful forever home but what we got was a nightmare form the start. Please reconsider if you are planning to use Schumacher to build your house. For the money we spent we are very disappointed in the craftmanship of this company. I know they will tag this post with a number to call to talk about the issues but trust me we have called and are still calling to try and get these issues resolved.
Update - The house is now 4 months old and so far we have had to have another company come out and put two of the interior doors back up because some of the screws were missing and the few small screws Schumacher team used couldn't hold the door up. We are also worried about the trusses after the snow we have had buckling. We seen some damage on them when they installed them and we were assured they were okay but now we have a sagging ceiling in the great room and large cracks and gaps in the sheet rock.
