I keep reading these reviews about Scopus Marsh Contractors and I don't understand. I just recently moved from the Redmill to Great Neck area. Almost 5 years ago Brendan built me and my family a beautiful deck to the exact specs that my wife wanted, well under what other company's quoted us. Fast forwarded to present day and after numerous quotes from other company's I called Scopus Marsh, he meet with us that day and the following week installed 208 feet of Aluminum Fencing with two gates after removing the old fencing that would not keep my two dogs in the yard. He again came well under the other quotes I received. I am looking at rebuilding my back deck this spring and he will be the first person I call to complete the work.

Lied and did not complete work. Was verbally abusive and threatened physical violence. Left whole section of fence unsecured. Left large piles of dirt all over the yard. Had to redo an entire side of fence because he "forgot" to measure existing fence and then told us it was our fault though his contract specified match existing fence. Told us he had helpers but never did. Thought 11 am to 3 pm was a full work day and said he thought he was worth $500 a day. Left fence poles on the ground for us to remove and replace. Horrible work.

I keep reading reviews that say "don't hire this guy", but I'VE HIRED HIM 4 TIMES!! I've had three cedar fences built on multiple properties and a huge porch addition completed by Scopus Marsh Contractors without any issues. I've also referred Scopus Marsh Contractors to several of my colleagues, friends and neighbors. No issues. We've had delays, sure. But, when the job is dependent on the weather, site inspections, concrete curing or other contractors you can expect some delays. All of my projects were completed on time and on budget. The job site was clean and the crew did quality work. Brendan Cooper and Scopus Marsh Contractors are THE only company I go to for fence and deck builds. Period.

I highly caution you from hiring this company. Expect long delays, poor workmanship, inferior materials, unprofessional service, shortcuts, trashed work area, and dissatisfaction with the final job (if it is ever finished).
Beware of Brendan - he will talk your ear off and then fail to produce anything but more talk. He never visited the jobsite while his 2 workers were working despite assurances otherwise.
- He left a check with us to pay his workers, unprofessional at best. After paying the workers they took off the rest of they day citing other jobs they needed to do, after only 30 minutes at on the job.
- The workers left the jobsite after less than a half day work over four times. Two of those times Brendan said they would return. Two times Brendan decided not to answer his phone until days later.
- All waste was attempted to be left my lawn to include semi-burying extra concrete for fence footings. Nails and board pieces were thrown behind bushes and in neighbor's yards.
- Jobs requested, promised, and paid for were never finished - level the bottom of the fence, remove old fenceposts (they just cut them at ground level), fix mistakes in pattern (pattern is off in 2 places), properly install latches (upside down and hammered bent to attempt to fit).
- Quality of materials is VERY low.
- All fenceposts were already spit and support rails were the thinnest in I have seen - I checked all other fences in the neighborhood. The whole fence is off plumb and both gates are crooked.
- The job scheduled for one week took four weeks. After the last three times we contacted Brendan to repair and fix mistakes and finish the job he stopped responding to our calls.
- Workers numerous times did not have proper equipment and had to borrow supplies and tools from us; we did this after realizing that if they did not have a tool they would simply leave and not return (happened twice).
- the final project is a standing fence with gaps at the bottom, not straight, weak supports, split posts, off kilter gates, poor hardware, and a fence I expect to have to be replaced in 3 to 5 years instead of 15 to 20.To reiterate: I highly caution you from hiring this company. Expect long delays, poor workmanship, inferior materials, unprofessional service, shortcuts, trashed work area, and dissatisfaction with the final job (if it is ever finished).

Bottom line: Brendan Cooper built me a gorgeous fence and deck but he and his crew were no shows for numerous stated milestone/completion dates and only gave me an excuse once I reached out to him.
I am a very reasonable person but to no-call/no-show again and again is just now how one should treat their customers...especially since I gave him 20% more than requested for the deposit. He said I'd be enjoying my fence and deck on the 4th of July, but the job didn't wrap until August 8th, and I still have some chain link sitting on my front lawn that he said would be hauled away. Also, haven't seen anyone from the city show up to do the final inspection of my deck as he stated. Again, no heads up of a delay and haven't gotten any replies. I expect ill have to get rid of the chain link myself and question whether initial inspections were even done.
He did build me a ramp for my shed and remove foliage that was between the chain link and my neighbor's free of charge. However, I ended up having to pay an additional $150 to remove additional foliage on the other neighboring side that he said needed to be removed in order to put the fence there. I am happy with that having been completed, but this is something that should have been identified before starting the job and included in the original statement of work.
In summary, he and his crew did a good job and was very polite in person. However, missing show-times and blowing through timelines with no heads up whatsoever was the overarching theme of this project. I would not use this contractor again. -

Excellent contractor whose competition can't stand his success!
The last post was false and misleading, we have hired them to perform many tasks in both resiendtial and our business.
Scopus Marsh Contractors Inc. are great people who always do the correct job. -

Apparently if you are having a fence built or installed this is the contractor that can do it BUT only that. DO NOT LET THIS CONTRACTOR IN YOUR HOME TO DO ANY WORK. He will do other damage and NOT take responsibility for it!! He did a very poor job on my home repair and did not even repair right!! I had to spend an additional $400.00 to bring in another contractor fix his mistake! I'm working on taking this man to court for damages and reporting to Department of occupation and regulation. Brendan Cooper talks a good game and that's it!!!

Brendan did an excellent job building my fence, deck and pergola. I would recommend him and hire him again for any repairs that I might need again.
