I hired Scott to install Pergo laminate flooring throughout my house. He said that flooring and crown molding were his things. It turns out that they really weren’t his things at all. He left gaps on the wall edges where you can see the floor padding. He installed baseboards that were scratched, gouged, and smashed on the corners. His 45-degree corners were so bad I had to redo a lot of them. There was one small 3-inch piece by my shower that was cut too big, instead of redoing it, he just hammered it in, broke it in the process and then nailed it in place. I have 200 feet of perfectly good baseboards left over that he could have chosen from, instead he just put up the damaged pieces. There is one section of flooring that isn’t even snapped together correctly, and you can see the gap. He cut the toilet holes with a skill saw and they’re so sloppy the toilet doesn’t even cover the hole properly. He cut all the holes with a skill saw and they look horrible. He poured some floor leveler in one of my bathrooms and it ran all through the water heater closet and he just left it a mess. In my kitchen he didn’t have enough quarter round to completely cover the bottoms of the cabinets, and instead of telling me so I could run and get a few more pieces, he just stopped and left the quarter round ending in a weird way. I had to rip that out and redo it too..!! He was going to put quarter round around this tiny piece of trim on my kitchen island and it looked horrible, and I had to show him what to do. He broke one of the cardinal rules of flooring by putting identical pieces next to one another sometimes three in a row. I didn't notice until it was too late.
He was doing this after hours by himself for the most part and it took him an entire month to complete. Our house was torn up for a month and we were very patient with him. There were times he said he’d be here on Thursday, and he didn’t show up until the following Tuesday. He takes on too many projects and unfortunately the customer pays the price.
When he left, I texted him within five minutes and said I'd found a piece by the front door that was smashed and needed replacing, he never responded to that message. Over the next few days as I put all our furniture back in place, I found numerous baseboard pieces that were damaged. I sent him a message telling him what a horrible job he did and how disappointed I was with the end result. I included 17 pictures of gouged, scratched, smashed and broken pieces of baseboards that were put up, and flooring pieces that were cut to short and the padding shows underneath. He messaged me back and said he'd come back by and make it right the following week and he never showed. When I messaged him again a week later, he never responded again. So, Scott Mize doesn't stand by his work. He doesn't care that you have to look at his horrible work for the next 30 years. I'm so glad this wasn't a metal roof, or I'd be swimming in my living room the next time it rains.
I wouldn’t hire him again. Be warned he talks a good talk but doesn’t follow through, and once he’s done, he’s GONE without regard for the horrible job he’s left you with. Hire ANYONE else.
I really wish I could attach pictures of his work here so you could see the horrible job he did. Take my advice and move on to the next available contractor no matter how small your project is, and good luck.
