Sean, I understand you are trying to repair your reputation. Please do not minimize all the unfinished work that you left here. Work that I PAID you to accomplish. Remember you stated all changes to the project were to be paid up front. We made a lot of changes that I most definitely paid upfront. Does $5,000 to enclose our back porch ring a bell? I ended up with a nice roof held up by temporary 2x4s on top of a cantilevered deck. What do you think the weight of the roof did to the deck that did not have the proper support underneath the posts? I bet you can guess? The next contractor had to demolish the roof and the deck because it was so warped that nothing would ever be square on it. There's $5,000 down the drain. I'm still waiting for the cast iron floor vents that we paid you for. Any day now right? How about the finish work? You know, things like moulding? Hardware for doors? So again, PLEASE do not minimize the work that I PAID you for that was not completed or was half completed in a manner that would have collapsed. Do you know what I'm dealing with today? I have electrical circuits that do not work because of the shoddy electricians you brought into my house. These are the exact same circuits in the addition that each of the three subcontractors installed. I have an electrical panel in the garage that has ZERO labels on it. I would think that labeling a circuit breaker panel is one of the most fundamental skills of ANY qualified electrician. I think the only qualified electrician you used was the first one that stopped working because he told me you weren't paying him. As far as taking you to court, I considered it but I was already tapped out from paying for this unfinished project you left me, and honestly it seemed like it would be wasted money chasing after you, money I needed to get things fixed and finished. Buyer beware.
Response from Sean C Mindes July 14, 2017Steve, The response to you was not to minimize my failing on your project or to rebuild my reputation. I have done hundreds and hundreds of contracts with only a handful of complaints. It was to clearly accept my failing, give you an explanation to why I failed, and to sincerely apologize to you and your family. I agree the subs did a poor job and ultimately is on me. I would expect you to post this review but in fairness, ask that it be 100% accurate and not just made in spite. Joel the electrician was paid for every invoice within days of submitted them. I showed you proof of this. He called you directly because I had paid him too much money upfront and did not have the money to complete the project. He subsequently refunded me $500 after leaving the job. The 2nd electrician was a total loser and I had to fire him because he was not doing the job he was being paid for. I would expect you would have wanted me to do this. I had a 3rd electrician come in and finish the job so we could get a final from the town. The electrical cost me far more than what I had charged you and I only did what I had to in order to finish the job. I was in so much pain and literally barely was able to walk away from your job. The porch was not complete but I do not know why the roof would need to come off because it had temporary supports. In good faith, if you were out of pocket $5000 to finish of fix my work, then it would be only fair for me to send you a refund. I believe that the final hold back was for $3000, so if I sent you $2000 would this show that I am being sincere and honest with you? In addition to the money, I will provide proof to the severity of my illness which almost cost me my right leg. I can not change things. I can only ask for your acceptance to my explanation and apology. Be well, Sean -

I second the previous post. He came across as very professional but then used poorly skilled sub contractors. He went through 3 electricians doing our remodeling job. The first one, the most capable, called me because he wanted me to know Sean was not paying him even though I had paid Sean. The framers he used did a very poor job. The sheet rockers had to fix a lot of the framing mistakes. He claimed he had a painter that he used. They showed up once. The rest of the painting was done poorly by Sean and a laborer who told me he was a plumber's apprentice. He quit before the job was finished. The whole project was months behind schedule. He claimed health problems for the delays and weeks without anyone coming to work. I eventually got an email telling me that he can't go any deeper into our renovation even though I had paid for everything as contracted. My mistake for not withholding money until completion. I was left with partial railings on front porch, nothing but temporary 2x4s holding up the roof on the back porch. Cracks in the new garage concrete floor. Sloppy and unfinished painting. Mismatched electrical outlets. Zero finish work completed, even though he told me he prides himself on his finish work. AVOID this guy at all costs!! I did more research on his business practice after the fact. Again, my mistake. He was sued in MA for not completing a project. Almost identical health issue excuses he gave me. He was using the company name Functional Living Construction Services FLCS when I hired him. I'm sure he will make up another name if he hasn't already.
Response from Sean C Mindes May 27, 2017Steve, I just came across this post and clearly you are in the right. It saddens me that I was not able to give you the job you deserve. I am sorry you do not believe I was truthful about my illness, but if it brings you some closure, I would furnish you any documentation to show the severity of my illness. After completing your project to the best I was able, I was eventually hospitalized and subsequently out of work for the next 8 months. I realize none of this make any of the short comings better, other than I can hold my head high in that although I did not deliver on my promise, I was honest with you. I took your job to the furthest point I was physically able. I almost lost a leg due to my illness and I doubt very much anyone would trade their health to make sure someones porch railings got installed. I am not trying to excuse any of this as I take full responsibility. I am just giving an explanation. And if memory serves me right, there was a hold back payment which should have been enough to cover the costs of installing the railings, so at the very least, I would hope you can say that I did not steal from you. If you feel I did, you should have filed a suit against me. I hope all is well for you and your family. Sean

I work with Sean often. He has done multiple jobs for me. His communication is great, he always answers my calls, he is wonderful with my customers, and he explains everything so they clearly understand the project. Sean goes the extra mile on the work he does. His prices are fair and most important, his work is top-notch. I would (and do) highly recommend him.
