"We are not satisfied until you are satisfied!" — so says the website for Select Tile and Marble. Don't be fooled. I hired them to install marble flooring in my home, only to discover that exactly the opposite is true: when I raised some worries about the work, owner Tony Nedelcu was quick to get on the defensive, obstinately insisting that I was nitpicking. In fact, I was pointing out some pretty flagrant errors. His rude stubbornness and lack of regard for my concerns would've been irritating on their own, but it was the gross and obvious nature of his mistakes that really made the situation and his attitude ridiculous and insulting.
For instance, after laying down some pristine tiles in the kitchen, Tony proceeded to chip and crack four of them by carelessly dragging our fridge over them. What's worse, and what really shows how highly he thinks of the client, he kept quiet and thought he could cover up the damage with caulking and grout. Had the end result not been such a screaming eyesore, he would've gotten away with his hack-job; fortunately, I detected the mess and withheld payment for a day, until Tony made some effort to mend the tiles. Elsewhere in my house, he cut off excessively long segments of the trim around several doors, leaving gaps of empty space above the marble and demonstrating a complete lack of care for precision or detail. His incompetence was again evident in his application of grout between the tiles, which was horribly uneven.
From what I've described, you might reasonably believe that Tony rushed sloppily through the job; in actuality, this shoddy, amateurish installation (of only 600 sq. feet) took him NEARLY 2 WEEKS to complete. How? Why? Perhaps because the man has a compulsive smoking habit and spends unimaginably long periods of time outside, away from his work, blackening his lungs. When he leaves for the day, what he leaves behind is not excellent or professional work, but rather a pile of cigarette butts on your driveway.
In summary: absolutely do NOT hire Select Tile and Marble if what you want is meticulous, professional, and courteous service.
