    Install Barn Door at kitchen pantry
    $250

    8/25/24, we purchased an “installation” from Home Depot in Weatherford, TX for $250 (barn door installation for pantry).
    8/27/24, Hm Depot installer, Johnny Peyson w/Shadow Construction came out to measure the doorway. Johnny informed us they cannot assemble the door, so we purchased a door that appeared to come already assembled. I showed Johnny the description of the door which said “door slab” and he agreed that it was pre-assembled. This wasn’t our preferred door, but we chose it because it was already assembled (so we thought).
    9/19/24, Andres w/Shadow Construction picked up the door from Home Depot on installation day. As it turned out, the door was not assembled like we expected, but Andres said it was no problem; he can assemble it. As he opened the box, the first two boards were broken, so Andres returned the door to Home Depot. Since we learned from Andres they do assemble doors, we decided to order a different replacement door that was our favorite in the first place & made of solid wood (less chance of broken boards). It also appeared to be easier to assemble so we were glad it would be easier for Shadow Construction. We also removed both pantry doors prior to the install, so Shadow Construction wouldn’t have to.
    9/30/24, recvd email from Shadow Construction that Andres would be out to install door on 10/11/24.
    10/11/24, Nicolas w/Shadow Construction called and said he couldn’t install the door because of missing parts. I was upset and told him this is getting rediculious and going on 2 months now. All he said is Home Depot would be contacting me. As it turned out, there were no missing parts. He was unaware we had the mounting board at our house and thought it was missing. Home Depot told me another issue was he was unaware the door needed to be assembled and didn’t allow enough time before his next appointment that day. They also said Shadow Construction wanted $150 from us to assemble the door. I didn’t think this was fair since Home Depot already charged us $250 for installation. Home Depot said another option was to assemble the door ourselves, so we did.
    10/28/24, (after camping 2weeks), I picked up the door from Home Depot.
    10/29/24, my husband and I assembled the door.
    10/31/24, Johnny Peyson w/Shadow Construction came out to inspect the door we assembled. He measured it. Length 85” on left & right side. Width 42” across top and bottom of door. Then he measured it diagonally and claimed it was 85” and 84.5”. He said “it’s out of square”. I told him we followed the instructions and thought we did everything perfectly. In hindsight, we discovered a mistake attaching the bottom board, causing the door to be 1” longer (85” instead of 84”). But still, it was exactly 85” on both sides of door. I asked Johnny several times is there a way to square it up and he never would say. He just kept measuring over and over and not providing any solutions. He said we “should have had them assemble it”. I asked if the hangers could be positioned one slightly higher or lower than the other one and he snapped and said “We won’t hang it like that!” That’s when I told him he needed to leave then. I was fed up with it all. It was obvious he didn’t want to hang our door and unwilling to provide any solutions to rectify the situation. He led us to believe there was nothing that could be done. Him being a professional I found it hard to believe they couldn’t still hang it. After all, it was a barndoor. It didn’t have to fit inside an opening. It just needed to hang. It seemed obvious to us that our job was too petty or small for him.
    If that’s the case he shouldn’t be contracting with Home Depot. Shadow Construction should express their expectations better with Home Depot or vice versa, such as; do they assemble or don’t they assemble. What jobs are too small. What the installation costs are and does it include assembly so it can be included in the amount Home Depot charges its customers (so no hidden costs later).
    On top of all the misunderstanding and poor communication, I had to reschedule after each door was shipped to Home Depot, Shadow Construction couldn’t do the install for at least 2 weeks. This happened twice. And it takes them 48 to return a phone call. Thats unprofessional in my opinion.
    As it turned out, my husband and I hung the door ourselves and it looks beautiful! Perfectly level. Just ended up being 85” instead of 84”.
    I cannot recommend this company based on their poor customer service, poor communication, and lack of will to resolve customer issues; causing undue stress on their customers.
