When my first pool company stopped showing up after they got the permit to drain and spent 2 days of cleaning and preparing my pool, I got a second estimate, this time to finish what got started. The guy (Will) came out and was so enthusiastic he made it sound like it would be an easy job to finish since, as he said, half the work was done. He called his boss (Darin) to tell the news, and then they talked pricing. He then got off the phone trying to sell me the news that this was going to be a large savings, but when it got down to the estimate, it was only a $55 savings from the entire cost of the first company, which is a very reputable company. I pointed that out and then showed him the estimate and price of his competitor, as asked. He realized then that he should have cut back on his commission because I knew I was being taking advantage of. He tried sliding the price back but by this point, I felt zero trust or confidence in their job or integrity.
