Before you begin a project with this pro, make sure you have clear plans, a clear system for communication and a solid understanding of the way he will invoice you for work completed versus work pending.
It is difficult to capture all of the challenges we experienced with Jeff in this single review. Here are a few standouts:
-Some of the subcontractors Jeff hired made numerous mistakes and it was difficult for Jeff to remedy the mistakes in a timely manner.
-Jeff rarely showed up at the times he said he would, he took a week-long vacation three weeks into our project, and he would schedule subcontractors then cancel them at the last minute. Essentially, he demonstrated no respect for us or our work schedules.
-He did not take our input or wishes into consideration, he failed to understand the cabinet plans and simply did work the way he wanted, even though we had communicated our expectations to him verbally and in writing, which led to numerous problems (for example: sink drains in the wrong place and electrical boxes incorrectly placed which impacted the timely installation of granite).
After numerous written and verbal requests for better communication, requests for explanations of the prices for which he was invoicing us, requests for corrections of mistakes that had been made, and adherence to a consistent work schedule, Jeff just stopped showing up five weeks into the job. At that point, we had paid him for 80% of the project budget but only 45% of the project had been completed. For approximately 10 days, our project was at a stand-still. There was no electricity, no running water, construction debris was everywhere and our was garage full of cabinets still in boxes, appliances and trash.
After sending him an email explaining consequences of continued no shows, Jeff and his subcontractors reluctantly returned to finish the project over the following 3 weeks.
We did ultimately get a new kitchen and it's *close* to what we wanted but, if I could do it all over again, I would hire someone else for this project.
