I filed a lawsuit in the STATE OF CT against Slate and Copper Services/ Grinnell Services...... DOCKET NO: UWY-CV15-6028443-S for improper slate roofing and copper work performed by the above. That contract provided a 10 year warranty..(valid until October 2023) Photos of massive flooding inside the newly rebuilt residence.... from 2013- 2022 ..available through email below.
The work was begun in 2013 and 2014. The house( after a total destruction by fire ) began leaking just 4 months after S&C began the roof installation. I am 74 senior citizen and for 11 years I have been living in a garage apartment because the house is totally uninhabitable because of the roof's continued flooding in the 6,000 sq ft residence.
It is now almost 11 years since Slate & Copper/ Grinnell Services were hired. One month before the trial in 2022 ....9 years after they started... they agreed to remediate the problems. They provided another contract and ANOTHER 10 year warranty. . They spent 2023 attempting to repair some of the flooding. The flooding GOT WORSE.
ORIGINAL CONTRACT: 2013
The court ordered all subcontractors to appear at the residence in 2018 with their experts for court testimony. S&C DID NOT SHOW UP.. They are above the law.
The copper work at the all peaks/ ridge installed by S&C did not meet ....off by three inches. The roof ridge flooded for 10 years because of this.
Despite the promise of supervision... young non speaking Ecuadorians installed and finished the slate roof...without supervision. Of course they could not answer my questions as to why the owner was not on site.
The copper work in the center of the home..... a 60 ft tower.. was horrible. Their workers did not connect the new flashing to the original wall thorough flashing... causing most of the flooding through two floors for over 10 years.
No building permits were secured by S&C/Grinnell/ despite it is listed in their own contract.
2022 UPDATE PRE TRIAL
TEN YEARS after they installed the roof, they agreed to settle and remediate damages with another new contract.. In December 2022....,another 10 year warranty was provided. by S&C.
The original contract and the 10 year warranty was still in effect until October 2023..... when they continued to work on the remediation in 2023 with the NEW 10 year warranty.
I had to pay S&C for the new repairs for which they were already paid for in the original contract. Yet my attorneys suggested that in order to stop the immense flooding...I should allow them to remediate.
After 6 months of working on ONLY HALF the TURRET.... with employees they call their "A TEAM.. (a group of 20 something year olds who speak little English from El Salvador)... the house is now flooding far more than the original in 2013.
They claim the contact holds them responsible for only" half the turret"....They clearly have their own "interpretation the law"which is why I have listed everything on line. it is still flooding in the same location prior to their new repair work. Documents don't lie. People do.
The owner Scott, has never appeared once on the job site since he agreed to settle out of court. A "30 something year old supervisor", Walter, has overseen the project. This is their "A team "of experienced craftsmen. Compare it to the people they show on their website who demonstrate a high level of craft.
NOW 11 YEARS LATER..., I still do not have a home to live in...despite that I have another 10 year warranty. At 74 I will never ave a house to live in. They will not finish the other half of the turret.They will not provide "before and after- work in progress photographs ....as promised by S&C... (my 11 requests in oral/ writing)
